Editorial Review:
Barenaked Ladies celebrate the holiday season with their ninth major release, Barenaked For The Holidays. This release features many holiday favorites, including "Do They Know It's Christ- mas"(written by Bob Geldof )and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," performed with Sarah McLachlan, and seven original tracks including BNL’s new holiday single "Elf ’s Lament," featuring Michael Bublé. Ed Robertson and Steven Page"s distinctive vocals give a fresh sound to traditional holiday classics. Barenaked For The Holidays is sure to be a holiday favorite that is fun, witty and dynamic.
Description of Barenaked for the Holidays:
Few bands are better suited than the Barenaked Ladies to take obnoxious old Christmas jingles to an entirely new level of obnoxiousness. The Canadian pop group does a smack-up job on this generous collection, where they tackle children's relics like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," curious seasonal fare such as Band-Aid's Ethiopian charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas," and a handful of tongue-in-cheek originals that share the bookish humor of the band's hits like "One Week" and "Brian Wilson." Even the inclusion of three Hannukah songs doesn't raise the bar for reverence. The disc also includes collaborations with Sarah McLachlan and Michael Buble. --Aidin Vaziri
Barenaked for the Holidays Reviews:
great music
2009-08-20 - I love the music on the CD, and it plays well. I just wish the original CD cover had been included.
Holiday Cheer!
2009-06-30 - I'll admit to being one of those sappy, sentimentalists who just loves the holidays. Despite this, I believe the music on this album by BNL is perhaps one of the most listenable collections of holiday music ever made, that you can actually listen to anytime of year. It's just plain unadulterated fun. When the guys actually get serious and do a "traditional" version (Barenaked style) of one of the standards, it's given the right amount of respect to avoid sounding like a spoof. If you're having a holiday party, you can't go wrong with this album playing in the background. But why would you want to do that? Turn it up and have some seriously barenaked holidays!
"Bare" Holidays Covers It All!
2009-02-03 - "Holidays" covers a wide variety of sings--old, new, and original--that fit into a winter holiday celebration, whether it is Christmas, Hanukkah, or old traditional. Especially love "Elf's Lament".
Everyone should get Barenaked for the holidays!
2009-01-14 - This is a wonderful holiday music cd. I was a fan of the band before, and was excited to see there was a christmas cd. It's a nice mix of holiday standards and fun, funky slightly off-beat selections. A must for any christmas music fan.
CD
2009-01-12 - If you are looking for a different twist on Christmas songs this is the CD for you. I bought it to hear 1 special track, but overall an enjoyable CD.
