Editorial Review:
Multi-platinum recording artist Barenaked Ladies will release Snacktime, a collection of 24 original children’s songs through their imprint label Desperation Records. "Our collective kids now outnumber the band more than 2 to 1," explains vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson. "We set out to make a record that would be entertaining for them … not strictly a children’s record, but a record that children would really enjoy. Our kids are into all kinds of music. Making the focus about what our kids like was a truly liberating process and fun for the whole band."
Snack Time Reviews:
Cute CD
2009-12-18 - This is a fun and clever kids' CD. The lyrics are typical of BNL, which is to say witty and fun, and the music is (mostly) catchy enough to keep kids' attention. We really enjoy a couple of the tracks - 789 and Pollywog in a Bog - but some of them are a little self-indulgent and lose our interest. There's a dialogue about salmon that we could do without, and they spend a little too much time in the "snacktime" section with lots of people calling in to tell them their favorite snacks. Overall, it's a pretty good CD (and WAY better than the Wiggles), but you won't want it to be your only companion on a 6 hour car ride. Also try "For the Kids 1" or Boynton's "Philadelphia Chickens."
Children's music that adults will also enjoy
2009-11-30 - We received this as a gift and now know why. The songs are funny and catchy and great for all ages. We even play it in the car when our 8 year old is not with us! We bought this for all the children on our holiday list this year, plus it is a standard for birthday gifts too. A guaranteed hit for under $15.
My toddler loves this CD
2009-11-03 - I got this CD for my 18 month old. She runs to dance in front of the speakers whenever I turn it on. She especially likes Track 13. This is a really fun CD.
My two year old loves it!
2009-10-21 - Catchy tunes, fun lyrics for parents, and captivating for kids. My 2 year old daughter demands it every time we get in the car and instructs us as to which songs she wants to listen to. Enjoyable on multiple levels and even has helped at dinner time because we sing Vegetable Town when she doesn't want to eat her veggies and sometimes she'll eat them.
Highly recommended for ages 1-10 for sure!
Not our favorite CD
2009-09-29 - I bought this CD for my 18 month old and she does not like it. I think it is a good CD, but it may be a little more appropriate for her in a few years. Songs are not as catchy and sing-songy as some of the music on our other CD's.
