Number 1's Reviews:
Missing Barry 4 Star Review
2009-12-17 - It has sadly been six years since the tragic death of Barry White. While so many people have missed him badly, his music honestly really lives very strongly on for lovebirds, and fans of the 70's music scene. That is celebrated well with Barry White's #1's. The collection is astrong andc yet, simple reflection of what made Barry White such a strong, and simple singer. His songs have a etched eternity in R&B lovers everywhere. The collection stands well for newcomers, and for those whom has not yet owned a Barry White album to call their own. Yet, the classics are well and widely diverse by choosing his best signature songs like Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe, You're The First, The Last, My Everything, and It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me, as well as standards from his side projects like the intimate Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite) with James Ingram, El Debarge and Quincy Jones, as well as his work with his Love Unlimited Orchestra on ballads like Love's Theme and I Belong To You, all the way to 1994's Practice What you Preach from The Icon Is Love. While there are a few great songs like Come On that could've been displayed here, Barry White's #1's is still a strong and welcomed purchase for anyone whom is new to Barry's music, and a great walk down memory lane to the classic love-filled days of 70's Soul.

good start for the Newbie 4 Star Review
2009-10-12 - Barry White was something else musically. his sense of Groove and those strong string arrangements along with his voice were always something to the ear and the mind. the Man truly had a way with putting down a track. the only knock on this compilation is that the songs are edited. his box set is for the big time fan, but if you are new to his work then this is cool and a good place to start. He is missed and he left a strong musical body of work.

Good "sampler" if you just want single "edits" 4 Star Review
2009-10-10 - For the "casual" Barry White fan, "Number 1's" is a must-have. It has most of the songs, with a few others, for which The Maestro is known: the solo recordings, his collaboration with Quincy Jones on "The Secret Garden", and his own Love Unlimited Orchestra, for which he released the monster-selling "Love's Theme".

There is a minor "misidentification" of a track: "I Belong to You" was released by White's background singer's Love Unlimited trio, not The Love Unlimited Orchestra, although the musical conglomeration provided the instrumental accompaniment.

"Number 1's" provides easy access to his hits, but the full versions of the same songs can be found on other, BETTER compilation, including the box set "Just for You".
