Editorial Review: Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 06/01/2004 Rating: Nr The Adventures of Francis the Talking Mule, Vol. 1 (Francis the Talking Mule / Francis Goes to the Races / Francis Goes to West Point / Francis Covers the Big Town) Reviews: Three Bad Spots 2009-12-14 - These movies come on a two-sided disc. Two movies to a side. There are no problems with the second side; however, the first side has three bad spots.
At 01:26 into 'Francis The Talking Mule' the screen freezes, and then after about 30 seconds, a series of intermixed scenes appear over and over. After using maximum fast forward, the film resumed at roughly two minutes before the end.
At 01:15 into 'Francis Goes to the Races' the screen freezes and unfreezes several times before continuing normally.
At 01:22 into 'Francis Goes to the Races' the screen freezes and then periodically freezes into blurry, intermixed scenes in a series of horizontal bands. This continues until the last couple of minutes of the film.
The same problems occurred using two different machines. There are no apparent scratches on the disc.
It is too bad that there are disc problems because these are excellent comedies. When Francis speaks, it is very believable. And his human friend, Peter Stirling - played by Donald O'Connor - seesaws from saving the day to being under intensive observation by an assortment of psychiatrists, just because he lets it slip that a mule talks to him.
'Francis the Talking Mule' - Lieutenant Stirling meets Francis in the jungles of Burma during World War II.
'Francis Goes to the Races' - Francis meets his cousin at Oakvale Farms. Stirling helps a rancher's daughter win a race.
'Francis Goes to West Point' - Stirling saves an atomic plant from sabotage. The Army wants him to go to West Point.
'Francis Covers the Big Town' - Stirling, hoping to be promoted, supplies reporters with newsworthy scoops from Francis.

Fantastic 2009-12-12 - I've always loved watching this show, my mom and I used to sit down and watch it when I was little, I was very happy to see this on dvd. If you need to watch something funny this is the show. Donna
Movies are good, but can't watch the end of each show. 2009-12-07 - I love the "Francis the Talking Mule" movies, and I was glad to be able to get them on DVD. However, the DVD hangs at the end of each movie to the point that I can't watch the ending. I pretty much know what the ending is, but it's frustrating for me to share these older movies with my children since it's their first time to see them and they can't watch the end. For example, in the original movie, Francis is on a plane that crashes, and Pete is describing to his bank supervisor what happened, and the last thing I can see is him saying that Francis was alright, but the picture and the sound hang and the DVD just keeps spinning as though there's something wrong with it. I went to the next movie on the same side of the DVD, and the same thing happened at the end. It's almost like they put too much information on one DVD and it can't read the last part of the movie on the DVD.
I haven't watched the other two movies on the DVD yet because it was so frustrating to watch the entire movie and not be able to watch the end. These shows are classics, and I wanted to share them with my kids. Maybe one day the DVD will be better constructed so it won't have these issues.
Francis' Adventures 2009-10-22 - I haven't seen these in years. They were as good as I remember them. Good quality video and audio especially for an old B/W movie. Woth the money if you are a Francis or Donald O'Conner fan
Francis the talking Mule 2009-10-04 - I love it. It so nice to find the old movies you love online and will be looking for more.
