Description of Music in High Places - BBMak (Live in Vietnam):
British boy-band trio BBMak play visitor in this latest volume of concert-travelogues from the Music in High Places series. On the heels of recent productions (sending performers Collective Soul to Morocco, Brian McKnight to Brazil, and Boyz II Men to South Korea), this production--part music, part discovery--finds Mak popsters Christian, Mark, and Ste prowling through busy, open-air markets in the Vietnamese city of Hue, visiting ancient ruins, and catching their breath in a cathedral-like cave in the Marble Mountains. Sure, there's plenty of evidence of the old French and American wars that raged on for decades, but the accent here is on appreciating a now- thriving, tourist-oriented economy, while taking frequent breaks to enjoy the chirpy, blue-eyed soul of our engaging hosts. Well, OK: It's a strange concept, but not at all an unpleasant one. Tunes include "Back Here," "Ghost of You and Me," and "I Can Tell." --Tom Keogh
Music in High Places - BBMak (Live in Vietnam) Reviews:
BB Mak is great!
2009-11-05 - The seller was fast and quick to send out! DVD was in great condition.
Pretty Good
2006-04-16 - I enjoyed the senary of Vietnam, looked hot and humid as I am sure it was ; )
And the guys in BBMak were pretty good too; they sounded great, played wonderfully, and harmonised super! The only thing that would have made this DVD better would have been more songs, but the 9 or so songs are more than plenty to enjoy! And they are some of the best ones! Perticularly, "Ghost of You and Me" performed in this huge marble cave! The acoustics were amazing! You could just tell while the guys were singing, that they were being blown away by it too. Thus were singing their hearts out!
A very good hour and 20 minutes watch. I'd recommend this to anyone; BBMak lover or not.
A Great DVD for the fans.
2006-04-14 - I used to be a fan of BBMak when they first got popular in the U.S. but then all of the sudden, the band just kinda disappeared. So I stopped listening to their music until I found out about this DVD. I was interested in the DVD right the way as I am a Vietnamese myself. This is one of my very first purchases on Amazon.com.
First, this is a great DVD for all the BBMak fans. They're truly talented individuals, each of them can really sing. Just 2 guitars and 3 vocals, they have put up a great show. Well, let's talk more about this show. If you're like me expecting a concert crowded with fans, then you would be a little bit disappointed at first when u play the DVD. There're just performances done in serveral locations in Vietnam by BBMak with absolutely nobody around. But just think for a second, this is a "Music In High Places" DVD, so people from there would be like "poor" maybe!? Lots of them wouldn't know much about popular music or just foreign music in general. I doubt that a lot of people from the locations BBMak was shooted knew who BBMak are.
Second, still, this is a great DVD for BBMak fans. Besides being so talented, they're really nice people. I couldn't think anybody would enjoy places like that in Vietnam, especially a so sucessful band like BBMak. But they really appriciated what they were shown to, the history, the people and all. There're a lot of behind the sences, interviews and some of the history about some places in Vietnam. So yeah, all the BBMak fans should have this DVD as well as all the other music fans.
Note: What you see from this DVD is not all how Vietnam is really like. I'm from Hanoi, the capital of the country and it's much different from the places that are shown on this DVD. I would really like people to know how beautiful my city is but it seems like people from other countries are only interested in the poor/nature places, it's kinda sad.
And Gosh, people from there speak much better English than the 2 ladies on the DVD. It is sooooo embarrassing for me to watch the DVD with a friend. I feel bad for BBMak because those two just talked, talked and talked to get their jobs done. They didn't care if it would make any sense...
I would still give this DVD 5 stars because asides from my personal frustrations, this is truly a great DVD. So, go get it, people!
Good Music in a Beautiful Locale!
2003-05-16 - "Music in High Places - BBMak (Life in Vietnam)" is a nice show showcasing the talents of British band, BBMak in the beautiful country of Vietnam. Not only is the music nice, but it's complimented by the enchanting backdrops of the countryside. The BBMak guys perform everywhere from a forest to a cave. This is definitely great for BBMak fans, but I would also suggest it to others who want to listen to music while looking at some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
nice dvd for bbmak fans
2002-01-13 - This dvd shows why BBMak is heads above other "boy bands" -- for one, these guys can actually sing, and secondly, two of them can actually play guitar. I like the stripped-down versions of their songs here better than on their cd. A nice bonus is that you can watch/listen to just the music performances, skipping the sound effects and tourist commentary in-between songs.
Oh, the guys are still handsome, too...particularly Christian with his beautiful eyes.
The dvd features DD 5.1 and DD 2.0 mixes. A minor complaint, but it would have been nice to have had a PCM stereo track.
The strangest thing about this dvd is Mark wearing a "M*A*S*H 4077" t-shirt during some of their touring. I don't know what his thinking was behind that, but it seems insensitive to me.
