Editorial Review:
Someone needs have a talk with talented emcee Beanie Sigel--you know, the Beanie who blazed that "and...'em" punctuated verse on "Adrenaline" from the Roots' Things Fall Apart--because he's nowhere to be found on this album. While Sigel's debut, The Truth, contained thought-inducing head-nodders like "What Your Life Like" that forewarned listeners of the pitfalls of partaking in illegal subterranean activities, he's taken an odious U-turn on Gangster Ave. On "Watch Your Bitch Ass" Sigel celebrates exploiting women and flipping keys, and this trend carries on throughout his 14-track effort. Sadly, a good chunk of the beats, looped samples, and hooks that accompany this narrow subject matter are rehashed and equally uninspiring. "So What You Sayin'" features Sigel and label mate Memphis Bleek covering the EPMD classic of the same name for no good reason. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! On "Man's World," producer No I.D. employs one of the most overused James Brown-sampled records, while "Beanie (Mack Bitch)" and "Gangsta Gangsta" lift hooks from annoyingly familiar Dr. Dre NWA hits of the past. On the other hand, The Reason begins and ends with arguably two of the better cuts on the album, so you're not left completely hanging. On "Nothing Like It," Sigel's seeds take center stage and are touted as the reasons for him wanting to become a better Beanie man, while the album's closer "What Your Life Like 2" takes listeners on a graphic trip through the psyche of a prisoner. Guest appearances by Scarface ("Mom Praying") and Jay-Z ("Still Got Love for You") keep things interesting because on both tracks Sigel makes clear the impact his parents have had on his life--both the good and bad. But in the end, The Reason further solidifies Sigel's position in the rap world as an underachieving rapper who's on the right Roc-A-Fella career train, but aboard the wrong tracks. --Dalton Higgins

The Reason Reviews:
The Reason... How could U not feel it when this Album came out. CLASSIC!! 5 Star Review
2009-11-24 - Wow Sigel was on some kind of Guerilla movement with this Album. I dont know how to describe it, it was like watching a football player(american) rushing past his competition and knowing he was going all the way for that TOUCHDOWN! B.Sigel is a beast!! One I heard him and Bleek on the remake of EPMD's - So What you Sayin.

I knew it was a match made in Heaven. Even though they are not the first to try the Back n Forth Flow style they did it Justice. "The Gooch is here dawg im back to work, I took time off a couple n*ggas had to get hurt"

The best songs on the album, which was touch to say is Probably The Opening Track -

1. Nothing Like It (truly Magical track)
2. Beanie (Mack B*tch) (The reason I called him a Beast)
3. So What You Saying (Sigel and Bleek with the back n forth Flow)
5. I Don't Do Much (Not much means alot trust me, its kind of scary)
6. For My N***az (a west coast feel, its alright)
9. Man's World (He encourages u to MAN UP and stop B*tching!)
11. Tales Of A Hustler (Sigel and Omilio Sparks, Explains their struggles)
12. Mom Praying (Very Reminiscent Track Good Job!)
13. Still Got Love For You (WOAH!! Jay-z joins Sigel on this one, SUPER DEEP song)
14. What Your Life Like 2 (SCARY/DEEP meaning track, Sigel forshadows his future, years later u see what he meant)

All in all, this was one of Beanie Sigel's most Unforgettable Classic Albums, if you didnt remember where you were when this came out. Give it a listen. It is a MUST BUY!!

What's The Reason for this album? 3 Star Review
2007-07-14 - Beanie Sigel's first album The Truth was just that. Minus two songs it was Beanie's best effort at the time(The B-Coming being the best now). This album falls short for a couple of reasons. 1. The production was dry. 2. Beanie sounds pretty uninspired on here(with a few exceptions) 3. weak guest appearances(with the exception of Jay-z and Scarface). The Good: Nothing Like It was a good way to start off the album. Mom Praying with Scarface is a touching tribute to their mothers and I must admit that Scarface and Beanie are a kick a** combo. Still Got Love For You which features Jay-z is their explanation for Where Have You Been as Rell gives a pretty decent chorus for the song and What Your Life Like 2 is an awesome finish for the album because Beanie always excells when he makes his deep cuts. Honorable Mention: So What You Saying featuring Memphis Bleek. The Bad: I never liked his first single Beanie(Mack B****) and why would he pick such a weak single to be the first is very questionable to say the least. Get Down, I Dont Do Much, For My N*****(feat a wasted effort by Daz) and Think Its A Game(feat Jay-z, Freeway and Lil Chris) are all boring tracks that will work wonders for the most chronic insomniacs.
The Ugly: Tales Of A Hustler is butt and I dont know why the Roc signs wack signees like Sparks when songs like this prove that he is absolutely useless on the mic. Gangsta Gangsta(feat Kurupt) is Beanie's big offence and lazy rhymes like /enough with that cocky stuff/dont get smacked like a hockey puck/(come on Beans I know you can do better than that) make you wonder if he even tried to put effort into that song at all. Then again that's not his biggest offence. Watch Your B****** is! Man's World is another dull track with a poorly used James Brown(RIP) sample in the background as Beanie just spits with no effort. Bottom Line: The Reason is Beanie Sigel's worst album and how anybody can feel joints like Watch Your B******, I Dont Do Much and For My N***** is beyond me. Beanie apologized for this album before his third release came out and I heard this album way before that interview so I agree with him 100%. This album was not the best he can do but he shouldnt apologize because he made up for it with The B-Coming so all is forgiven. Just dont do it again.

The Reason - why out fell off this one 3 Star Review
2006-05-23 - Not to sound too critical, but this one was rather dissapointing, compared to his first release, "The Truth", now he has given us a reason why this LP is not as equally impressive as his previous work. Although it didn't really dissapoint overall, there is enough material to keep you going, for instance the introspective ("Nothing Like It") or the emotion-filled ("Mom's Praying") and ("I Still Got Love For You"), but that's not enough to save the whole album.

sigel aint playin 5 Star Review
