you wanna stroll down memery lane with the beatles,then this is you book.so many rare pitures and stories it's the ultimate book for light reading that was fun for me and my brother back in our school days.I would rank this book right up there with any other fan perspective of any other group or singer .

Boy I Can Relate To GUWTB!
2008-03-14 - I bought this book in early 77 and after reading it brought back alot of memories. I was this much obsessed with the Beatles when I was a kid. My friends and I used to put on shows for the local girls pretending we were the Beatles { playing to Beatles records]. All in all a very good book> Im now 53 and what I wouldnt give to relive those days back in the sixties!

An unpretentious little slice of life in the 60's
2007-02-22 - The unnecessarily angry and hostile 'reviews' here don't exactly speak well for "music with rough edges" and it's fans. Be that as it may, the book is what it says it is, a tribute to The Beatles, as well as the memoirs of a fan who grew up during the original phase of Beatlemania.

I happened upon a copy amongst a stack of used books and started flipping through it. I was immediately drawn to the many rare photos throughtout the book, many of which I'd never seen before. Unfortunately, all of the pictures are in black & white.

There are thousands of other books about the Beatles, many of which offer much more insight into the Beatles themselves and their music, but this is a good little first-person account of what it was like to be a young Beatles fan in the Republican heartland of America in the 60's.

It may be a bit bland at times, and I don't always agree with the authors assessments of the Beatles music, but nevertheless, it's worth a look for the rare photographs and to read about a very ordinary person who actually grew up during those heady times.

A different story for Beatles fans
2007-01-26 - I`ve always enjoyed this underrated little gem of a book, having first read it back in 1981. Before the Internet made it cool for everyone to be an obsessed fan of something, it was hard to find perspectives like this on a music group. Schaumburg talks about his discovery of the Beatles` music with genuine appreciation and the affection of a true fan. I don`t always agree with his dislike of hard rock, but on the other hand, he obviously knows his stuff- he has a lot of good things to say about the Revolver and "White" albums, which I feel are two of the band`s best. And despite his seeming conservative views, he consistently praises John Lennon, including his solo stuff.
Schaumburg`s honesty about his awkward teen years gives us some of the book`s finest moments. So what if some might brand him as nerdy? He`s smart, funny, and true to himself. And besides, the whole point of this story is to show us the average American fan`s take on the Beatles. That`s obviously not the same for everyone, but the neat part is that this writer succeeds in communicating what all types of people like about this band: their music`s optimism and boundless imagination. In a world of jaded cynics, it`s refreshing to enjoy the reflections of an enthusiastic writer.

2006-01-15 - I found this book a dreadful bore..I do not need to hear about this guy's pathetic life..he takes the term "obsessive fan" to a level that only mark chapman could understand..everything in his life revolves around the beatles..he takes his first date to see yellow submarine,and his "gosh golly" enthusiasm over the film must've been a clear sign to his date that she was out that night with a loser.
.....a friend of his is bummed out because he broke of with his girlfriend (bummed out because he was probably getting laid, as opposed to going to see yellow submarine)..so what does old ronnie tell him to do?.."listen to the beatles..they understand"...ye gods!!
...and for those wondering what ron is up to now, click on his name..you'll see he co-wrote a book on men bonding by getting back to their tribal roots for some sort of psychotherapy....ha ha ha
