Editorial Review:
3 LP set. The most anticipated of the Anthology series, this disc covers what was arguably the Fab Four's most intensely creative period ('65-'67) when they single-handedly changed the course of popular music. Anthology 2 doesn't disappoint. Outtakes and demos show the building of songs like "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite," while the pure pop song writing of Rubber Soul and Help! is also documented, along with the sonic experimentation that characterized Revolver. Even if the legendary proto-metal jam of "What's the New Mary Jane" didn't see the light of day here, there is plenty for any Beatles fan. EMI. 2005.

Anthology 2 Reviews:
"Still after all these years" 5 Star Review
2008-09-07 - One could spend a lifetime an never can say enough about the fab four. The second of the series, this has the music that I my mind is the most creative period of the Beatles. To listen to the evolution of "Strawberry Fields" or any of the songs, is to hear how such musical genious is created. However, the song that stands out is the newly discovered "Real Love" which starts the cd. Poignant strains of piano and guitar haunt this melody. More so when you remember that John and George are no longer with us except in our hearts.

Disappointment 1 Star Review
2008-08-29 - I am deeply disappointed by the so-called Beatles Anthology since all three CDs contain just a couple of originally recorded songs which is not mentioned in the advertisement. I consider this a certain breach of trust at least as far as my personal relationship with Amazon is concerned. I will return the CDs.--Wolfgang Seibel, Zumsteinstr. 11, 78464 Konstanz, Germany

You Know My Name....gggreat!! 5 Star Review
2007-12-19 - Anthology 2 is worth every penny, especially because of the wonderful "Real Love" and hilarious "You Know My Name," though I prefer the final version on the B side of "Let It Be." Am I the only one who appreciates the incredible Lennon and McCartney vocals in the beginning of the latter? Singing near the top of their ranges, they have an otherworldly quality that is unmatched in pop music. They don't even sound human! Lennon and McCartney were truly a match made in Heaven.

Excellent 5 Star Review
2007-09-30 - A very special CD, with the "BEATLES" VARIOUS VERSIONS of many of their hits during recording sessions, before they recorded the "MASTERS" which were released onto records, and the story behind the recording sessions of these "masters"

Real Love 4 Star Review
2007-06-06 - To some critics, this is just a grab bag of Beatles outtakes. To others like me, it's a mini-revelation of sorts, and a chance to revisit Beatles history. The milestone of this is the Beatles' final collaboration of sorts - "Real Love" - Lennon seems to drive this with real emotion and his former bandmates play with it as if they were all in the studio. It's a great, fitting tribute to the talent of the entire band.

The second interesting part for me was CD 2 - the embryonic growth of Strawberry Fields Forever - revealed in three successive takes here - makes for a satisfying and different experience of the song. It feels somewhat dimensionalised.

While not everything is fantastic or that different here, the Beatles were pretty consistent, and what is here makes for a complete Beatles experience. To enjoy it more, watch the companion DVD set. Worth the price of admission? Absolutely.
