Editorial Review:
In the deluxe-edition of the LP 'The Beatles' First' released in Germany in 1964, this very exciting period is extensively documented. There's not only music, but a 28-page booklet based on facts, which shed some light on what really happened. In addition to the newly remastered tracks of the original release, CD 1 includes two variations of the first Beatles single 'My Bonnie' as bonus tracks. CD 2 is comprised of original recordings in mono, including both versions of 'My Bonnie' as well as two other Tony Sheridan recordings form his Beatles' phase. Universal. 2004.

Beatles' First Reviews:
For hardcore fans only 3 Star Review
2008-01-03 - These songs have been reissued countless times since Beatlemania. Most people might only listen to the Lennon cover of "Ain't She Sweet?", and maybe "Cry for a Shadow". Those and "My Bonnie", which led them to Brian Epstein, as the legend goes, are on "Anthology 1". The other tracks have ex-pat Sheridan on vocals. At the time, the Beatles depended on him, but later on, the tables seemed to have turned. He has done interviews on a few budget docs, and might pop up at a Beatlefest. These were recorded in Hamburg by bandleader Bert Kaempfert. It's not always clear if it's the Beatles on every track. Some say the Beat Brothers, though the Beatles also used that because their name sounded like a dirty word in German. I used to have a budget LP called "Die Grossen 12" (the large 12), but I sold it. I have another LP from Italy, but I have it more for posterity than to play. Theses tracks are ambiguous to many and could be anybody. Some reissues say that Stuart Sutcliffe is on them, but he left by the time these tracks were cut. The rest, of course, is history.

Sounds Great 4 Star Review
2005-02-04 - Sound quality is fantastic considering the ERA (Mid Sixies)for the release, early sixties for the recordings. 2 CDs with the stereo on CD 1 and mono on CD 2. This is one of the better sounding early Beatles CDs. Lacking a few songs ( Ready Teddy and Kansas City) though from that era. Could have included the the extra songs that where on (The Early Tapes of) from the same company 'Polydor'. I would have given it a five if they would have added those 2 songs. The book that comes with this is in both German and English and it appears that the are saying the same thing, no earth shaking information but written well. I am very pleased with the sound and quality of the set. The price is a little steep. But all of the Deluxe Editions are this steep. This is a must get for the Beatles fans. Now all that is needed is to fix up the Star Club tapes.
