Editorial Review:
This two CD set contains 45 of Lennon & McCartney's finest songs as interpreted by a variety of classical performers. While the songs were initially intended for a Pop/Rock audience, the Beatles' tunes have consistently been reinterpreted in every musical genre imaginable. The beautiful melodies of the songs are enhanced ten-fold in a classical setting, especially when they are intelligently arranged for the ultimate emotional impact, as heard on this collection. Includes songs performed by Robert Chilcott, Manuel Barrueco, Swingle Singers and others. Features grand performances of 'Yesterday', 'Here, There And Everywhere', 'Let It Be', 'Long And Winding Road' and 'Fool On The Hill'. EMI.
Classical Beatles/Various Reviews:
Classical Beatles far from being a classic
2009-01-25 - The first track - the King's Singers' version of 'Yesterday' was a dire warning of what was to come! I began to think it was a send-up but the high pitched voice, which I'm sure was off-key, lasted for 2.31. The other King's Singers tracks (and there were lots of them), were equally as bad.
The vast majority of the CD does not represent classical versions of Beatles music which is what the title promises. I'll be transferring the 'Beatle Cracker Suite' a couple of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra tracks and 'The Beatles Concerto' to a disc and throwing the original away.
Classic Beatles
2009-01-08 - Excellent CD from the UK. Great selection of artists on the two disc set. I am also pleased that my cousin and his partner are represented on the set. They are Rostal and Schaefer, the dual piano team. Peter Rostal is my first cousin, also known by his birth name of George Barbour. The CD should have had more press about it in the USA.
