This newly remastered edition of Yellow Submarine includes 15 fully remixed/remastered tracks, including songs which were originally released on Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, and the original soundtrack to Yellow Submarine. EMI. 2005.
Description of Yellow Submarine (1999):
To the horror of their most obsessive fans, the surviving Beatles have proven more than willing to tamper with their pop legacy, as witnessed by the various facets of their massive, occasionally myopic mid-1990s Anthology projects (and the suspect notion of its faux techno-marvel "reunions"). In boldly revamping the soundtrack to their 1968 Heinz Edelmann-designed animated fable Yellow Submarine, the Fabs have shown they're not immune to the irony of the age either: their original involvement in the project was both tentative and minimal. This new version completely excises Beatles-producer Sir George Martin's charming, if sometimes maudlin, orchestral score, offering instead a new "songtrack" containing all the Beatles songs (standout cuts from Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, in addition to the four originals unique to the project) featured in the film. The pre-announced "unreleased song" on the set turns out to be the original album's rollicking "Hey Bulldog", one of the last true Lennon-McCartney collaborations. "Hey Bulldog" was also the subject of both a previously excised sequence in the film and a newly edited in-studio video cobbled together from footage shot in early 1968 and previously used in vintage promos for "Lady Madonna". Though it may further upset purists, the band has allowed these tracks to be digitally remixed and remastered into 5.1 surround sound, imparting both a stunning clarity and a new perspective (as well as restoring a "missing" verse and the original six-minute plus playing time to "It's All Too Much") on some of the greatest--if obviously overexposed--songs and recordings in the history of rock. --Jerry McCulley

Great Remixes! 
2009-12-05 - Here we have a collection of reasonably unadulterated remixes, which in most cases sound better than the recently re-mastered versions. Not quite as unsettling for the purists as the "Love" album remixes, but approaching the Holy Grail of a better sounding version of the original. (Try also the Beatles Remixers Group for this sort of thing, they made an admirable remix of Rubber Soul, cleaning up areas like distortion on "Michelle," still evident on the re-mastered version). Subjective opinions will always vary, but I'd buy this for the following reasons:
1. "I'm mad crazy about the Beatles and I want the best version (for clarity) on my stereo or ipod."
2. "I'm a casual listener, liked "Love" and probably won't buy the albums, but want to hear some more."
P.S. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE YELLOW SUBMARINE ALBUM FROM 2009/1968. THIS HAS 15 SONGS WHICH HAVE BEEN REMIXED AND IS CALLED "THE YELLOW SUBMARINE SONGTRACK" SEE WIKIPEDIA: [...] FOR FULL EXPLANATION.
THE best alternative to the 2009 remaster hands down
2009-11-21 - The poorly mixed songs on the original soundtrack (and 2009 remaster) get the treatment they deserve on this 1999 release. Remixed songs from Rubber Soul ("Nowhere Man" "Think for Yourself") Revolver ("Eleanor Rigby" "Yellow Submarine" "Love You To") and Sgt Pepper (title track - "With a Little Help" "Lucy in the Sky" "When I'm 64") as well as the original soundtrack songs especially "Hey Bulldog" have not been improved upon even with the 2009 remasters. This was one of the few times that Capitol EMI hit a home run with Beatle reissues and remains one of my all time favorite Beatle CDs. The 2009 remaster would be recommended only to those who enjoy George Martin's orchestral scores to the film (and they are not that bad) - for Beatle fans this IS the Yellow Submarine soundtrack to own hands down.
1999 Remastered Version is Much Better than 2009
2009-11-04 - What sound! 5.1 was the way to go.
I ran the cd through my 6.1 sound system.
I was impressed with the clarity.
I especially enjoyed the additional songs
added to the cd rather than the musical
numbers by George Martin on the original
soundtrack.
For my money, and it was, the 1999
version is the one to buy!
George Martin orchestrations 
2009-08-10 - Whatever happened to the original orchestrations by George Martin? They are just an afterthought in the land of Beatlemania, but the man was instrumental in creating the sound behind the Beatles and made a real contribution to the film. "Pepperland", "Sea of Holes" are two that come to mind since I don't have my vinyl in front of me and I really wish they would be available.

2009-08-03 - A rare occasion where 5 starts does not suffice. These remixes are brilliant. By far the best treatment the Beatles catalogue has received to date. Clear, revelatpry, genuine stereo for the first time and 5.1 for the multichannel crowd. Bravo brilliant !!!!!
There is a new "remaster" series due out in September... that this team was not allowed to do it is almost criminal. Their, nay our, catalogue. is after all the most iconic touchstone of the 60's generation, all due respect to Zimmerman aside. The dismal "remasters" produced to date, would be a joke, if they were not an out right theft, given the millions spent around the world, to buy not just one, but at least two previous cd reissues of the catalogue. We can only hope that these coming reissues approach the level of achievement here.
