Editorial Review:
From her early days in the bathhouses to her rise as the star of her own concert film, Bette Midler has always brought a campy playfulness to her performances. Experience the Divine focuses on her radio hits for the bulk of its resources, although the kicky "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" is here. Midler's voice easily adapts itself to the material she's performing: "When a Man Loves a Woman" is charged with a raw sensuality whereas "In My Life," is as tender as a lullaby. The recent standards are here, "From a Distance" and "Wind Beneath My Wings," along with her star-making turn, "The Rose." Whether she's handling Cole Porter ("Miss Otis Regrets") or the Beatles, Bette Midler's voice is dynamic and expressive, according to the needs of the song. This astute ability to interpret without always going for the kill makes her versions of her chosen material some of the best ever recorded. --Steve Gdula
Bette Midler - Greatest Hits-Experience the Divine Reviews:
Bette Midler CD
2009-10-13 - The Bette Midler CD arrived in excellent condition. I ordered the CD because we wanted to play a certain song at my Mom's memorial service. We did that and it was so touching and a great hit. Now I have the rest of the CD to enjoy for myself, including her song.
Thank you.
All the Favorites and More!
2009-09-11 - Bette Midler can sing and her voice is well-heard. I don't care much for the Rose but I'll listen to it again if she sang it live like she does at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. She has some her favorites and ours like "Wind Beneath My Wings," "In My Life," "Hello in There," etc. I don't care for her rendition of "When A Man Loves A Woman" because it's been done to death but I'll hear it again if it's Bette. She certainly is Bette the Divine, the People's Diva as she crowns herself. Her songs also reflects a variety of War songs from the last World War like the Bugle Boy song and others. To me, Bette's at her best when she sings ballads like "in my life" and "Wind beneath my Wings." She's a terrific entertainer but with a potty mouth.
Divine!
2009-03-06 - What more can you say about Midler? She IS divine. I had this in the album version and it was scratched. Glad to get it as a CD. Thanks for the prompt shipping.
See Bette now in Vegas- hear these "live"
2008-02-21 - Bette Midler opened tonight in Vegas- incomparable show with many of the songs on this album - When a Man Loves a Woman blows the roof off Caesars.
