  • Children of the Bride Reviews:
A feel good movie 5 Star Review
2008-12-18 - I watched this on a ice day by the fireplace, it is my favorite out of all three ,it is such a feel good movie, loved it.

entertaining family comedy 3 Star Review
2008-02-07 - CHILDREN OF THE BRIDE (the first installment of the "...Bride" trilogy starring Rue McClanahan, is a gentle and funny comedy, perfect for the entire family.

Middle-aged divorced mother of four Margaret Becker (Rue McClanahan, "The Golden Girls") stuns everyone with her plans to marry John Hix (Patrick Duffy), a man 15 years her junior. The wedding plans get off to a rocky start when Margaret invites her four grown-up children back home...each of them harbours personal problems that threaten Margaret's new-found happiness.

Co-starring Kristy McNichol ("Empty Nest"), CHILDREN OF THE BRIDE was filmed during the height of "Golden Girls"/"Empty Nest" mania. It was later followed by two well-received sequels ("Baby of the Bride" and finally "Mother of the Bride").

The DVD from Direct Source Special Products is nicely-priced; they've also released the other two movies from the series. (Single-sided, single-layer disc).

Average at best 3 Star Review
2007-12-11 - Mediocre acting abounds in this made for TV movie featuring mostly TV actors on hiatus. An older woman (Rue McClanahan) on the verge of marrying a much younger man (Patrick Duffy) must deal with the effect her upcoming marriage has on her grown offspring, who gather for the nuptials and each bring their own bag of problems - including a nun thinking about leaving the convent (Kristy MacNichol), a single father who wants the best for his girls (Conor O'Farrell), and a daughter who never blinks (Anne Bobby). The other son is a throw away character who is portrayed by a different actor in each sequel (which interesting enough feature Duffy's TV brother Ted Shackleford - Gary Ewing from "Knots Landing" portraying the character Duffy originated).

The over-acting is unintentionally funny. Definitely check this one out on Lifetime Movie Network; even at $6 it's not worth the price.

So excited to find this on DVD! 5 Star Review
2007-01-16 - I saw this movie when it originally aired on TV. I absolutely loved it, and I loved the two sequels as well (all three are now on DVD!).

Rue McClanahan is wonderful as are Kristy McNichol and Patrick Duffy. For me though, the standout is Anne Bobby. She is delightful in this part, and I just fell in love with her in this movie.

I am so pleased that it is available on DVD from Freemantle Media. The quality is great for a TV movie, and you can't beat the price either!
