I Am...Sasha Fierce Reviews:
Beyoncé's Most Personal Stumble! Promotes Porn, Suicide--She Gets Sued 4 Album Title Changes It Later, Fans Outraged in Malaysia 1 Star Review
2009-09-26 - This is the Double Disc Japanese Import comprised of 9 tracks on each disc. Beyoncé brings a message in the first of "I Am..." and "Sasha Fierce" in the second. The persona is divided into 2 with I Am being the "good girl" spiritual side and the "Sasha Fierce" as the sexy, uninhibited alter ego that will cause a few jaw drops yet be intoxicating to a degree. The combination of both is Beyoncé. This is her most personal work to date. Her first album was about love, her second a birthday celebration and this an inner "self" she feels compelled to sing. While not her strongest work in terms of sound, production, song-writing, or soulfulness there is no question when it comes to Beyoncé anything is possible and nothing is predictable! In this case, this was a stumble!

On Disc One--The music has very little R&B effects, more guitar sounds, and a spotlight on Beyoncé's voice which is not it's strongest in the ballad styles. "Halo" is a song about embracing and appreciating the one you love and not taking them for granted as she sings, "It's like I've been awakened/Every rule I had you breakin'/It's the risk that I'm takin'/I ain't never gonna shut you out.". Most of the songs are deep, love related and others present the feelings of despair or sadness like in "Disappear" "Broken-Hearted Girl", "If I Were A Boy", "Ave Maria" and "Save The Hero". The question in her song-writing is then marked with their tones not too happy. The music in this first disc sounds all on the same pitch levels lacking much diversity and making the listening a more pro-founding deep emotional one with a pop and even rockish over tones especially in the bonus track "Save The Hero". The hip-hop, featured artists, and rap has been totally stripped out.

Disc 2 is a more uptempo sound as it has faster paced beats, some soulfulness, and some hip-hop vibes although still lacking. "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" is a fast, high paced song with a more filled of fire Beyoncé delivering a rich, soulful sound many like from her B'day Album. If more songs like this would have been included then this would have been excellent. "Diva" and "Video Phone" have much better beats but then the song-writing is questionable. Quite unsettling and degrading is "Video Phone" as promoting video porn. Video porn is destructive and promoting it with lyrics that say, in what position.. you want naked? They are totally damaging and not role model for listeners or good to hear. These type of lyrics would seem more for a street chic and not the nice Beyoncé people have come to love. The last song and bonus track, "Why Don't You Love Me" is another song addressing issues of relationships in a not so positive light.

Personally, this was an unsettling release since it lacked the soulful/hip-hop fast up-tempo tracks on B'day and the song-writing was extremely lacking. Will this album be played a decade from now? Does it have the powerful ballads like "Listen" or "Me, Myself, and I"? Does it have the featured artists like Jay-Z, Sean Paul and others? Will it cause you to shake, dance, or feel happy? While the answers may be obvious, one thing is more certain: this was an album about "I Am" and Sasha Fierce. Not a pretty sight.

*This product should have an EXPLICIT label for it's content on the song "Video Phone" with promoting video porn with lyrics that state, "...what position.. you want me naked?" That's a disregard for the self-respect of a woman. All my reviews talking favorably of Beyoncé and Destiny's Child have been deleted and I am no longer a fan. She gets sued for the album title and gets a "no don't perform" in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur as Islamic groups protested--obviously I state a good case. The vulgarity, and sex sells is more important for her in entertainment than protecting her reputation, and NOT promoting approving degrading song-writing. BEYONCE PUT EXPLICIT LYRICS advisory on outer artwork case.

There have been reported over 3 teenage suicides for video porn and sexting. This song does NOTHING to help the situation. By having songs like that, the suicide will climb and that's a disrespect for fans who have followed her when she was actually spiritual and humble not arrogant and money based.
