Editorial Review:
Standard two CD pressing. One of 2008's most hotly anticipated album releases, I Am..Sasha Fierce marks the artist's first new studio collection since the Grammy-winning multi-platinum-selling B'Day debuted at #1 on charts around the world shortly after its international release on September 4, 2006. With all songs co-written and co-produced by Beyonc‚, the artist's third studio album is her most personal, reflective and revelatory collection to-date. 11 tracks.
Description of I Am...Sasha Fierce:
(Amazon.co.uk Review) The latest outing from former Destiny's Child starlet Beyoncé is an intentionally schizophrenic affair. Splitting herself into two separate characters--herself and alter ego Sasha Fierce--is the artist's way of presenting what she obviously sees as an artistic duality. The first set, I Am..., is intended give a glimpse beneath the surface of her usual R&B-pop persona. Featuring recent single “If I Was a Boy", the soaring “Halo", and ballads like “Disappear", and “Ave Maria", it seems her “real" self is way more saccharine than the lady that brought us sassy pop moments like “Crazy in Love" and “Baby Boy". That side of her personality comes rushing back out on Sasha Fierce, a more rousing collection that kicks off with the infectious handclaps of “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", ventures into Euro-dance territory with “Radio", and gets surprisingly risque with the voyeuristic “Video Phone". Which part of the album you enjoy most will depend on your musical proclivities, but the new, bifurcated Beyoncé ensures there's enough diversity to satisfy the most demanding pop aficionado. --Danny McKenna
I Am...Sasha Fierce Reviews:
Wish I could get a Refund.
2009-10-20 - Recently purchased this Album along with Letoya Luckett's Lady Love Album thinking it would be better than B-day and contain more substance than the singles I heard on the radio like Diva and Ego. I was wrong. This album put meet to sleep. It definitely could have been on Disc. The only song I really like is Halo. Overall I AM Sasha Fierce lacks substance and depth. Her best solo album is Dangerously in love all others have been subpar.
Okay songs, SUPER lame marketing ploy [2 discs? C'mon'!]
2009-10-20 - When you think of a cd or movie that is divided into two discs, you think of a collection of work that is so long, so great, so fullfilling, so varied that you just can't squeeze it into one album. Not so with "I Am . . . Sasha Fierce". What you have here is one [pretty average] album split up into two very short ones. This annoys me for several reasons: 1) It keeps it from being a cohesive body of work, and instead, each cd feels like a sampler of a new, undiscovered artist peddling his/her demo tape at the car wash because there are only a few songs on it 2) All 11 tracks could have EASILY fit on one disc. Now I'm no environmentalist, but when I think about how much extra plastic will eventually end up in some landfill because Beyonce wanted to make sure we know the difference between an uptempo song and a ballad, it makes me sad. 3) Because it's on two discs, I can't enjoy all the songs at once. I have to stop what I'm doing, take out one cd, and put in the next one. Not so fun when you're at the gym and you have to stop mid-workout to change discs because your music just stopped.
How dumb do record producers think we as an audience are that they think people will be more likely to buy a cd because it's not just by Beyonce, but also by her [wait for it] . . . alter ego! Oooooo!!!
As for the songs themselves, there are actually a few good ones on both discs. "If I Were a Boy" and "Halo" are both beautiful and poignant ballads. "Sweet Dream" and "Radio" are GREAT songs to dance or work out to. "Diva" and "Video Phone" are just nasty wastes of time. They sound as if Beyonce took a Starbucks break and said "Hey, J[ay-Z] - could you make up some beats while I'm gone?". He does, and when she comes back, she just moans out some words that rhyme to go with them and slapped them on the album.
If you have a friend who owns this album, it's worth asking them to burn you a copy, but I wouldn't spend money on it [again].
Disappointing
2009-10-19 - I'm pretty much still a Beyonce fan although she is horribly overexposed at this point.
I'm disappointed in this so-called double CD. All the songs could have been on one CD or she should have added more material to each one to justify a double CD. I like "If I were a boy" and "Single Ladies", but more so because of the videos than the songs. Had they not had such entertaining videos these songs would have fallen off the radar because the songs are unable to stand alone on their own merits. Plus Ciara did an even more interesting version of "If I were a boy" about 2 years ago. The Jay-Z influenced "Diva" irritates me while at the same time makes my foot tap.
Also, because I bought the regular edition when it first came out and not the deluxe edition I missed out on what I thought was one of the best songs, "I don't know why you love me" and I like the "Ego" remix.
Halo is a'ight. I think maybe I was expecting too much from Beyonce. After all she is more of a product nowadays than a true artist. It's a shame because she has artistry within her, but it's overshadowed by her overblown Divaish, sex object persona. I wish she could tone it down some and focus on her craft and artistry like India Arie, Jill Scott or Alicia Keys. This is a clear cut case of money trumping artistic value or integrity. Come to think of it, I'm taking a star off.
Sasha Fierce Good - Beyonce Hummmmm?
2009-08-12 - When I bought the double CD, I immediately went to the "Sasha Fierce" CD. Its filled with the type of Beyonce tunes that I enjoy, high energy-bass driven. I enjoy "Ego", "Video Phone", "Diva", and "Scared of Lonely." Now for the "I Am..." (Beyonce) CD side. Well, I have played that CD only two times. The first time of course is the obligatory listen to see if I like any songs. "If I Were A Boy" is cool, but that's about it. Some of them I can listen to again...maybe, but last week when I plugged in the CD (mind you this is after having it for about 3 months) I can't connect with it. I enjoyed more of her slower songs on her first solo album vs. this one. Overall, depending on what type of Beyonce tunes you enjoy, I'd just stick to the Sasha Fierce.
Beyonce's I Am...Sasha Fierce Offical Review
2009-07-14 - Hello, people of the world, I'm gonna review every song, even ones from the deluxe edition.
If I Were A Boy- Okay, everybody loves this song, but I hate it! Why would you sing about being a boy???!!!
Halo- I love this song because of it's beat and it's ability to show off Beyonce's beautiful voice. I praise this song.
Disappear- Now I love this song more than "Halo". I am soooo mad that she doesn't sing it in the tour. I am also really mad that it's not a single. It deserves to be one!!!!
Broken-Hearted Girl- I like this one a lot. She sings sooo fast. I'm a good singer, and I couldn't even catch up with the speed of it.
Ave Maria- This song is good. Nothing else to say...
Smash Into You- This is such...ahh forget it
