  • Editorial Review:
The art of the con is not dead. You merely can not see it. If you do see it, then it is inevitably always too late. It is an invisible crime built on the premise of finding someone who wants something for nothing and then giving them nothing for something. Choose the mark, reel them in, play on their desires and set them up. It does not matter whether they are black or white, male of female but they must be strictly major league. There are no quick fixes. Patience is truly a virtue in this game. All you have to do is make them believe.

Description of Hustle - Complete Season One:
An elaborate con game has a built-in dramatic structure--so it's almost effortless for Hustle to turn a band of con artists into a stylish, charming BBC series. The key to the show is that it's realistic enough to get the audience engaged in the psychology of the swindle, but preposterous enough to be completely entertaining. A team of five--Mickey "Bricks", the charismatic leader (Adrian Lester, Primary Colors); Albert, Mickey's old mentor (Robert Vaughn, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.); Ash, who rigs things up (Robert Glenister, Prime Suspect 4); the drop-dead gorgeous Stacie (Jaime Murray, The Taming of the Shrew); and newcomer Danny (Marc Warren, The Revenger's Tragedy--are cunning crooks with hearts of gold, who routinely turn their skill at fraud to help needy friends. Despite this implausible sentimentality, the show's great pleasure lies in the fallibility of human nature, as mark after mark is led awry by his or her worst impulses, ranging from a brutal casino owner to a predatory art dealer to a vicious ex-cop. The best episodes have double twists that turn the con on its head; the weakest ones rely on devices already made familiar by movies like The Sting. But consistent throughout are entertaining performances by the core cast and delightful freeze-frame sequences in which the details of the cons receive a swift and lucid explanation. All in all, thoroughly fun stuff. --Bret Fetzer

Hustle - Complete Season One Reviews:
Watch this if you like Cons 5 Star Review
2009-11-13 - I was watching Leverage: The First Season on TNT when my attention was drawn to Hustle. I love watching Leverage - the characters are fun to watch and some cons are really good.

However, Hustle is as good, though you have to take each episode from both series and then analyse which is better. The first thing that draws you in is the title music. Adrian Lester as Mickey "Bricks" fits in nicely in the leader's role. Robert Vaughn is charming and brings back memories. Ash is very skillful, Stacie is smooth and Marc Warren as Danny is fun to watch. Sometimes I have to rewind due to the corny british accent (does not happen for all british serials) but here it takes some getting used to.

The viewer is taken along the con and the whole con is explained with a freeze frame technique. The whole world simply is frozen while some key point in the con is explained to the viewer. Very nicely done and great fun to watch. I'm currently on Season 2. Do watch Leverage also - you'll definitely like it if you enjoy Hustle.

The long con... 5 Star Review
2008-10-16 - I've said it before and I'll say again, British cinema does more with less. Hustle is one of my favorite series. I've watched seasons 1-3 and I've loved every episode. I'm surprised they haven't cloned this series on HBO or Showtime. I think it's a little dry for American audiences. If you can come to grips with the dry but solid writing of this original show then you're well on your way to enjoying a well made program. Pick it up with a little patience and I think you'll love this one.

Hustle Season Three 5 Star Review
2008-01-28 - What can I say - The cast of characters is supurb, the story lines are ingenious, and the watcher gets conned somewhere along the way. A must for anyone who has loved season one and two. Complete that set.

    perfect 5 Star Review

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant 5 Star Review
2007-10-10 - This extremly brilliant series should be watched by all. I saw the first season in the UK in 2004 and was thrilled to find it on Amazon. I believe that season 4 is excellent too. Can't wait to get it.
