  • Editorial Review:
A terrific ensemble cast powers this fast-paced rise of organized crime in America. Mobsters traces the daring exploits of four close friends growing up in 1920s New York: the charming "Lucky" Luciano (Christian Slater), the savvy Meyer Lansky (Patrick Dempsey), the headstrong "Bugsy" Siegel (Richard Grieco) and the diplomatic Frank Costello (Costas Mandylor). From their humble beginnings, they formed an unbreakable bond that led them to the top of the underworld in this visually stunning film co-starring Oscar-winning actors F. Murray Abraham and Anthony Quinn.

    Description of Mobsters [HD DVD]:
Somewhat of an excuse to throw together four hot young actors of the moment in a serious environment, Mobsters nonetheless is a decent treatment of the rise of four of the most infamous gangsters of the 20th century. Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey play Charlie "Lucky" Luciano and Meyer Lansky, respectively, best friends since they were kids on the mean streets of New York. When Prohibition hits, these young ambitious hoods--along with Bugsy Siegel (Richard Grieco) and Frank Costello (Costas Mandylor) make their move to take over the rackets, even as it jeopardizes their friendship. Featuring cameos by Anthony Quinn, Michael Gambon, and F. Murray Abraham, Mobsters is a guilty pleasure if a not too serious one. --Robert Lane

    Mobsters [HD DVD] Reviews:
New York Gangsters 5 Star Review
2009-10-01 - Very entertaining film that traces the lives of four notorious crime leaders: Frank Costello, Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lanski and Lucky Luciano. Excellent costume drama with some fine acting by Christian Slater and Anthony Quinn.
Although the film did not receive high marks when it was released, it has become very popular and provides a much closer storyline to factual events than other recent mob films. As time goes on, it will probably achieve "cult status." Definitely a film worth watching.

The True Story 5 Star Review
2009-07-14 - This movie is as close to the truth of history making of the Mafia Syndicate as you can get. Christian Slater played Lucky Luciano as no other actor can. The supporting actors were also superb. If you enjoy the history or mob movies this movie is the one you need to add to your crime collection.

    Mobsters 5 Star Review
2009-05-25 - This movie has great history on how the group of mobsters started i was very intrigued by it,, i love the part where Bugsy Seigal (Richard Grieco) tells a little boy that a man in the other room has a job for him and the boy enters the room and "Lucky" Luciano (Christian Slater) and Meyer Lansky (Patrick Dempsey) are sitting down and the boy asks lucky Luciano if he has a job for him and lucky said u did it kid and flipped him a coin. The point of that was the boy just picked who the boss of their gang was going to be,, i guess lucky Luciano has the (look),,, it was a great movie a lot of Mobster style violence,,truly and old school mob flick!!!
