Editorial Review:
With a permanently snarled upper lip and the perfect matinee-idol blond hair, Billy Idol made punk rock palatable for MTV and the masses. He did so by watering down punk's aggressive attack with dance grooves and stretches of keyboards where no self-respecting punk would've dared. Essentially, he made pop music with a spare razor blade tossed in for fun. When it clicked, as it does on the anthemic title track of this, his career highlight, well, only an anarchist could complain. "Eyes Without a Face" and "Flesh for Fantasy" are two other early '80s radio stapes found here and they went further to establish Idol as a potential Vegas balladeer. This reissue contains some worthwhile demos. --Rob O'Connor
Rebel Yell Reviews:
Billy Idol Rebel Yell
2009-08-16 - The ultimate rock star never disappoints!! Of course, a must have for any Idol library or for anyone who enjoys rock n roll with sex appeal!
Best Album by the IDOL!
2009-07-30 - We have prime Billy here. The album that catapulted him to worldwide success.
Featuring definitive part anthems like 'Rebel Yell' and 'Flesh for Fantasy'; but also soft songs like 'Eyes Without a Face' and the almost somber 'The Dead Next Door', we got it all. Not one single regular song, they're all good.
Steve Stevens guitar add all over the songs an energy that blends extremely well with Billy's voice. These two together live would put the stage on fire following the tradition of Richards/Jagger and Tyler/Perry.
It's one of those records that you need to put it on to feel better and cheer up. Extremely underrated, should be on anyone's list of the best rock albums from the 80s.
Rebel Yell!
2008-09-26 - I love the song 'Rebel Yell', but I enjoyed most of the other songs in this CD also.
Great music!
EVERY SONG IS FANTASTIC!!
2008-07-03 - Basically BUY THIS CD if you don't already own it! It is truly one of "the" all time greatest hit records of the 1980's!! Song after song was a hit. Those that weren't are still incredible!! You will NOT regret your purchase!!!
An Exceptional Mix Of Punk, Hard Rock, And Dance Pop
2008-07-02 - Billy Idol's REBEL YELL is an intriguing, powerful mix of Sex Pistols-style punk, Foghat-style hard rock, and Duran Duran-style dance pop, with keyboards sprinkled liberally across each song. Truth be told, Idol made pop with a razor edge that found more acceptance with the 70s hard-rock audience than with either the punk or dance-pop crowds. This album was his crowning glory, along with CHARMED LIFE, and should be the first Billy Idol CD you buy.
