Description of White Christmas:
Try to forget the fact that Bing Crosby probably never had to record another song in his life after he immortalized "White Christmas." If you can do that, you'll find plenty more to like in this crooning Christmas collection. There's the Romantic Bing, charming the tinsel right off the tree with "The Christmas Song," and that cure for cabin fever, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" There's the Reverent Bing, solemnly singing "Adeste Fideles." And of course, there's Bing the Showman, belting out "Good King Wenceslas" with a bit of that ole vaudeville shine. But no matter what you're told, "White Christmas" will be the number one reason for sticking this one in your stocking. And who can blame you? It's as timeless now as it was way back when. --Steve Gdula

White Christmas Reviews:
A holiday classic, but there are better options nowadays 4 Star Review
2009-12-22 - Look, let's face it. If you celebrate Christmas and listen to Christmas music, odds are you own this album. It's a classic. This album has been around for decades, and Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' (as it's now being issued; used to be called 'Merry Christmas') has become perhaps the most classic and essential Christmas album on the market.

And look at the track listing! 'White Christmas,' 'Silent Night,' 'Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful),' and 'Jingle Bells' are all Christmas standards, and Bing is largely responsible for that. They all appear on this album, as well as 'It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas' and 'Christmas in Killarney,' two songs that should be standards but aren't.

But, I give this four stars. Why, you may ask?

Well, in 2009, 'White Christmas' is still a classic, but it's becoming outdated. Nowadays, there is '20th Century Masters - Christmas Collection: The Best of Bing Crosby,' which has the original 1942 recording of 'White Christmas,' as well as an older version of 'Silent Night.' Or, for those who want it all, there's the two disc collection, which has the remake and the original version of 'White Christmas,' everything on this album (minus 'Faith of Our Fathers,' which, in all fairness, is not a Christmas carol) and plenty more. I recommend seeking that album out if you are a Christmas music purist.

And that leads to another complaint. When this was first released in the 1950s, they had to use the 1947 remake of 'White Christmas,' because the original 1942 master was severely damaged. While that version is great, don't get me wrong, with the compact disc reissue, I would have personally added the original '42 version as opposed to the '47 version offered here and the one that gets the most radio play. But that's just me personally.

Overall, as many previous reviewers have stated, it's just not Christmas without hearing at least one Bing Crosby Christmas carol. And many people will tell you that you don't have a Christmas CD collection without 'White Christmas' in your possession. And, quite frankly, I can't say I disagree.

Highly, highly recommended for anybody who likes Bing Crosby or just Christmas in general. This CD is truly a must own if you celebrate Christmas and want some carols to deck the halls with. But, just keep in mind there are better options nowadays.

ENJOY!!!

A Very Merry Christmas with Bing Crosby 5 Star Review
2009-10-02 - I remember listening to this album in the late 1950's. I've never gotten tired of these songs by Bing Crosby. I could not imagine the Christmas Season without listening to this CD.

Great Christmas music! 5 Star Review

THE Christmas Album 5 Star Review
2009-07-31 - ..from THE artist that symbolizes Christmas music. Don't beleive that? Then explain why the title track is listed in the Guiness Book as the BIGGEST selling record of all-time (yes, even more than "Thriller"!).

IF you buy no other Holiday album ever, you NEED this one. 'nuff said.
