Editorial Review:
Coachella, the feature length film based on America's premiere showcase for alternative, cutting-edge music, comes to DVD filled with one classic performance after another gathered from the 6-year history of the festival. The iconic headliners and forward-looking newcomers include Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Stripes and many more. Coachella: The Film is already taking its place beside concert epics such as Woodstock as the musical portrait of a generation.
Coachella Reviews:
Some Like It Hot
2009-04-17 - This is a great documentary on the first 5 years of the festival held annually in the southern california desert. I have been to several of the coachella events and can say this film shows exactly what you will experience at this festival. The film does not show entire songs by artists so as to keep things moving along swiftly, like a documentary should. If you own the historic Woodstock film, then you will enjoy having this film in your collection also.
Great Dvd
2008-05-02 - Sure this dvd only has parts of songs someimes, and not a lot, but the dvd is more about coachella as a whole, not just the bands. The performances are top notch, and the filming is great. Audio is very good too. You cant please everyone with a dvd like this, but I think its a great variety.
Perfect distillation of Coachella
2008-03-27 - The Arcade Fire performance alone is worth the price. If you love Coachella you should own this (and you will love it). If you haven't experienced the joy that is Coachella, you might not enjoy it as much.
Good!
2008-02-17 - The Coachella DVD shows what it is like to be at the Festival. There are many shots of art, different stages, the dance tent, interviews with attendees and performers, and the unique natural environment of the Palm Springs desert area. if you are expecting a music concert on video you may be disappointed. if you are curious about coachella, or want a keepsake then BUY IT NOW!
Pretty, Pretty Bad
2007-10-29 - Most of the reviews here are dead-on but I can add some. I thought this would be a straight-up concert film but as you've read it's not. It's more like somebody's indulgent college film project.
Also, simply one song per act (and a bad one for Morrissey) and a bevy of little-known acts that don't deserve the time onscreen...blech. The Chili Peppers phone in "Californication" in an already sleepy film.
The ONLY good thing about this is Radiohead's absolutely floor-stomping performance. They simply kill with their 3 minutes.
Sadly, nobody else does.
Skip it.
