  • Screaming Masterpiece Reviews:
Good introduction, but only an introduction. 3 Star Review
2009-05-09 - I basically agree with K. Dorsey's earlier review. This doc is certainly enjoyable and put together well, but it's an extremely brief and shallow introduction. In the vast majority of cases we get only brief fragments of performances. The experience is a little like listening to preview clips on Amazon Music, but with visuals. Somewhat frustratingly, the major exception to this is Björk. I adore Björk, but she's already a well-known international star and I'd rather hear and see some of the lesser-known artists.

I'm glad I've seen this - I'm highly motivated to track down some more music from some of these artists. So, as a promo vid for the Icelandic music scene, it's a success. As a documentary, it's a bit underwhelming.

A Decent Review of Icelandic Notables 3 Star Review
2008-08-01 - If you happen to already be interested in some Icelandic artist(s) and/or are interested in the culture of Iceland itself, then this short documentary is a decent acquisition for $15. I wished it were more in depth (and thus longer); I mean, they run through about 25 artists rather quickly, but it's a nice, compact sneak-peak at everything if that's all you're looking for. Not bad, but not too great either.

    Screaming Masterpiece 5 Star Review
2007-08-12 - Indeed a masterpiece! This is a wonderful documentary on the music scene in Iceland. Going through all of the genres of music, from ambient to punk to hip hop to classical, there is something for everyone. There are interesting interviews with several bands/performers and amazing performances! On top of that, the top notch cinematography and editing perfectly compliment the mood. The people over in Iceland are certainly doing it right, and this dvd shows it!

    Great Work! 5 Star Review
2007-05-06 - Screaming Masterpiece is an awesome documentary about the current music scene in Iceland. There's no need to have a history about it because almost all of the artists use their roots and ancestry as their main influences. For such a small island country Iceland has hundreds of different bands that make many different genres of music that all still relate to each other. This is one of the most interesting and entertaining documentrys I have ever seen. It is WORTH seeing.

    So Good! 5 Star Review
2007-04-24 - Saw a copy of it at a friend's place and borrowed it. It's so cool, I had to get my own. One of the best music docs I've seen! Good soundtrack too. It's really fun to watch the Icelanders making music with saws, hammers and nails. Bjork is by far not the only talent up there. Sigur Ros' opening in New York is brilliant!!
