Editorial Review:
Blake Shelton is the perfect contemporary country artist. His rich baritone voice allows him to bounce between traditional-sounding honky tonk material, big romantic power ballads, and pure country with relative ease.
Startin' Fires Reviews:
Blake is Awesome
2009-12-09 - This is the first CD I've bought of Blake Sheltons and it won't be my last. I saw his video of She Wouldn't Be Gone on a country music station and I loved it. I immediately bought this CD. Every song is great and his voice is awesome.
AWESOME!
2009-11-12 - Product arrived swiftly and in perfect condition. Now my Blake Shelton collection is up-to-date.
Awesome music.
Absolutely wonderful!
2009-10-26 - I bought this cd for one song and it became one of my favorite cd's as every song is wonderful. If you love Blake, you won't want to pass this one up.
Blake's Best Yet...
2009-09-12 - I give Blake Shelton credit for making me a country music fan! Okay, maybe not the whole genre, but definitely a fan of HIS music! And it's CDs like this one that I play over and over again that make me tap my feet, laugh out loud and get up and dance by myself (and with my husband), and shell out cold, hard cash. This CD is an absolute keeper! I can't find a track I don't like.
Blake's vocal range is showcased even better here than on previous projects. He's truly grown as a performer, and I didn't think that was possible. I can't wait to see him perform during his tour for this album. And I look forward to hearing more from this talented cowboy in the future.
Blake Shelton's "Startin' Fires"
2009-07-22 - What many have said in earlier reviews are true - 'Startin' Fires' is a strong effort. I found that I liked more tracks on this release than on the previous releases where there were one or two good songs, a few okay tracks and then an assortment of forgettable ones. 'Startin' Fires' isn't flawless - there are still a few iffy tracks but they aren't entirely bad. 'Startin' Fires' is a real guitar picking, sway-inducing, violin and fiddle country delight. Where many country artists seem to produce 'country' songs that are rather pop and mainstream orientated, I found that Shelton stayed true to his earlier releases and career by producing what I consider real country music. The songs have stories and plots, his voice (un-tampered with and the real deal) is on display, and there's something for everyone on here.
The songs that worked the best for me were those that embraced the whole country lifestyle. These songs weren't gimmicky or comedic but had real heart and soul to them. I loved 'Green', a track that any person who enjoys rural living and living in the country would appreciate. 'Good At Startin' Fires' was another upbeat, quick paced song that had a catchy chorus and flirtacious lyrics that Shelton is good at writing and delivering. The slower tracks that worked for me were the country ballad 'I Don't Care' that reminded me a lot of 'Austin' from his self-titled release 'Blake Shelton' with a twist/confession at the end of the song and 'Here I Am'.
In all, a great release. This is what I think real country music should sound like but, these days, rarely comes close to. Shelton's voice and vocals on this release are even better than ever, the songs are (for the most part) good and catchy. There are only a few tracks that I'd probably skip after the first listening but those don't weight down the whole effort. I like the consistent sound and theme running throughout the release, and simply would encourage everyone to give 'Startin' Fires' a listen. Definitely worth checking out and buying.
