Editorial Review:
The recently reborn Blind Melon will release their first studio album in thirteen years this spring. It introduces new singer Travis Warren as a replacement for late front man Shannon Hoon, who died in 1995. Warren joins original members Rogers Stevens, Christopher Thorn, Brad Smith, and Glen Graham. "This record's a great rock 'n' roll record," Warren says. "It's kind of like (1995's) 'Soup' - the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you." Without eschewing familiar Blind Melon sounds, the album ventures off on tracks like "Sometimes". According to Warren, "We definitely want to experiment and do different things."

Missable 1 Star Review
2008-12-20 - It just isn't important music. Once upon a time, Blind Melon was a very rare breed of band. Like U2 or Pearl Jam, brimming with talent and pregnant with possibility, slinging dirty poetry right into your ear without even having to aim. They had the words and the edge and charisma, and the inclination to not merely entertain you, but make you feel something; to break your heart with nostalgia and set you to longing for some lost something irretrievable.
All that died with Shannon Hoon. And it will never come back.
I have nothing against those remaining making new music, however I do think they should be doing it under a different name. This is simply not Blind Melon.

Welcome Back My Friends 4 Star Review
2008-11-03 - Although Blind Melon will always be known for the amazing lyricism of fallen band mate Shannon Hoon, I can't really find anything bad about this cd. Sometimes the love of what you do overshadows the loss of a key element in a band, so there's nothing left to do but get back on the horse. If nothing else, Shannon's legacy will still be passed on to generations to come through the live show, and the evolution of the rest of the band will be displayed through new music. At the very least, the guys aren't stagnating like many other bands from that era. Welcome back, guys, and I hope to see you on tour back home in Indiana.

Somewhat pleased 3 Star Review
2008-10-01 - Trying to fill Shannon Hoons footsteps is a high order to fill. Did a decent job but didn't have the same blind melon feeling. Better luck next time.

missing Shannon 2 Star Review
2008-09-22 - The lyrics on this album wallow in generality and cliche: they spoil the music. I'm not sure what part Travis Warren played in composing the songs (since they are all "written by Blind Melon as One"), but as far as I can tell, the boys are missing Shannon Hoon. Warren's voice isn't bad, but it just points up how extraordinary Mr. Hoon was. I understand why Melon went with a guy who could ape Hoon; after all, the fans will expect to hear all the old, great songs when they tour. Unfortunately, the most this album has done for me is remind me that Blind Melon (in their original line-up) is one of my favorite bands. After a couple listens to "For my Friends," I dug out the Shannon Hoon albums and had myself a good old time. The raw energy and specificity of Hoon's language, combined with the songwriting on those first three albums, outshines anything on this latest album. Stick with the Hoon stuff.
