Soup Reviews:
This Soup Is Great 5 Star Review
2009-08-28 - What can I say Blind Melon is the best grunge band around. They didn't last long because of Shannon Hoon's tragic death RIP. But this is my favorite Blind Melon CD. All of the songs have great riffs and Shannon's voice is so great. it fits the music so good, like Jerry and Layne "Alice In Chains." There are so many great songs like Galaxie "my favorite," 2x4, and Skinned. Every song is great in its own way.If you liked there first CD thin I really think that you will like this one.

A very nice CD with a hidden track to boot 5 Star Review
2009-05-10 - To be frank, I bought this CD for its hidden track in the pregap of track 1. I didn't really care about the music at first, but now that I've listened to it I must say the music is in fact pretty good! I can't really name anything comparable, but if you like rock music in general you should give this CD a try. In my case, it was totally worth it. In fact, I even bought their "Best Of" CD because I wanted more. :)

Best Soup I've Ever Had... 5 Star Review
2009-03-04 - I agree with the last reveiw. I hate that the Bee Girl comes to so many minds when they think of Blind Melon. I recently introduced a friend to this absolute great band a few days ago. Before that, she only had heard of, "No Rain". Although "No Rain" is a great song, I feel it does not compare to the many of other wonderful songs on there CD's.
Hoon and the band are such a distinct different band that they definitely can not be categorized. The distint raspy voice of Hoon, his ability to blend and change his voice to compliment the large variety of instruments, is just a little I could mention about there sound. The band members were absolutely destined to be together and form this band.
As I sit here trying to put into words how great this band and Cd are, I cannot find such words to describe them. I suppose they leave me speechless, as many great experiences can do.
Check out this CD if you have never had the chance to do so. But beware, highly addictive!!!

Amazing Album (CD) 5 Star Review
2008-11-26 - BUY THIS ALBUM! You will not regret the purchase, only that it took you SO LONG to enjoy this masterpiece.

What could have been... 5 Star Review
2008-11-05 - This is an album that has to suffice. The Shannon Hoon era of Blind Melon is gone and sadly we only have two proper albums to ponder if they could have topped themselves with a third(excluding Nico of course). The eponymous debut was sublimely beautiful full of energy and yearning and even had a hit song(which is unfortunate in the sense that most people will only remember this amazing band for it). If this album had merely matched(or even came close to) the beauty of Blind Melon's debut I think most Melonheads would have been ecstatic. The fact that it far exceeds its predecessor is awe-inspiring. Where the first album showcases Blind Melon as a Jam band with the ability to also write accessible songs with hooks that won't quit, this album has those elements but also explores folkier sounds along with casting well placed bits of darkness that no Jam band before them ever tried. Plus, the New Orleans style jazz that bookends the album adds another dimenson to their sound. It all adds up to a much fuller sounding album than Blind Melon's first - and because of Shannon Hoon's untimely death will have to be called their masterpiece.

Although this is somewhat of a tangent I want to address a concept that I have about this band and album(and why I titled my review what I did). A lot of people have called Wilco the American Radiohead but if you measure both Radiohead and Blind Melon by their first two albums you might notice the similarities that I do. Both debut albums had a big hit song that pigeon-holed each respective band as one-hit wonders(although Blind Melon's debut is ultimately stronger than Radiohead's). For each respective band's sophomore effort they released albums that blew away their debuts showing that each respective band had a lot more going on in their imaginations and sound than most people had ever concieved. After The Bends(Radiohead's Soup in this comparisson) Radiohead released what a lot of people consider their masterpiece(including me) OK Computer. Radiohead have gone on to release some magnificent albums after OK Computer (and some might argue better ones) while the Shannon Hoon era of Blind Melon will always be stuck at two.

In case you don't know Blind Melon have since reformed and released a pretty dang good album with a new singer(2008's For My Friends) it's worth checking out. There are moments that you almost forget that in all likelihood they will never be as great as they were on this album, but who knows, they may get there. Point is that although as of now Travis Warren(the new singer) hasn't gotten out of Shannon Hoon's huge shadow the new album is worth checking out. But get Soup first if you don't have it. The most underappreciated album of the 1990s.
