Editorial Review:
On their 1997 release, Dude Ranch, juvenile hardcore-pop band Blink 182 tickled the funny bone with an assortment of dumb sex jokes, off-color artwork, and between-song skits, including one of a dog drinking from a freshly peed in toilet. So, two years down the road, have the band matured at all? One look at the cover of Enema of the State, which features cover art of a tarted-up blonde nurse donning a rubber glove, provides the easy answer. Fortunately, Enema supports the humor with strong musicianship. The songs are more dynamic and multitempoed than those on Dude Ranch, sounding like a cross between the Descendents and Fountains of Wayne. And unlike the glut of alt-rock releases that offer one or two memorable songs, Enema is flush with instantly memorable melodies and ear-pleasing harmonies. Good, dirty fun--no more, no less. --Jon Wiederhorn
Enema Of The State Reviews:
I am here for my Check-Up
2008-05-15 - So who wouldn't want to buy this CD?
Especially with the album cover (you know what I'm talkin' 'bout)!
Anyways, she is the first woman I fell in love with back in 7th grade...
And with her came my love for blink-182... Their style and music is so catchy that I never get tired of listening to any of their CD's, however, I have to say this one might be their best!
Every song/track has it's own character/story that makes it interesting, and easy to get hooked into. Whenever I want to go back to the 90's I chuck this CD in and remember all the good ol' days when girls weren't PMS-ing, school was fun, US exchange was up, gas prices were down (even though I couldn't drive), and I wasn't so stressed out.
Even the title of this album makes me laugh! Ha ha ha, so clever, so clever....
^_^
one of the all time best
2008-05-11 - f### everyone who doesn't like this CD. This is one of the best CDs of all time.
a very big-selling, popular album for good reason
2008-04-09 - I don't have MTV or listen to commercial radio or really pay much attention to mainstream media, so I had no prejudice love or dislike toward Blink182 when I bought their famous Enema Of The State release. The reason I first got this was because I heard and saw drummer Travis Barker play and was very impressed - so much that I wanted to hear his band. This is the only Blink182 album I have at this point, and I like it a lot, but not so much that I'm going to get their entire discography. It's excellent power-pop-punk along the lines of Green Day, with a heavy Ramones influence. Travis, as I expected, is awesome and the drumming stands out for me on this CD. The lyrics are a bit goofy on purpose, and the music is... well a lot like Green Day - fast power chords in a driving rhythm. Very accessable music on the fast/heavy side that would appeal to a fairly wide audience. There's not a bad song on here, but my favorites include Dumpweed, Don't Leave Me, What's My Age Again, Adam's Song.
Memorably Great
2008-01-29 - I bought this album when I was 10 years old and probably listened to it a million times. Over time I varied my taste and hadn't heard blink-182 for about 5 or 6 years until very recently. The second Dumpweed came on all of my old memories of repeat listens flooded back. But this is not a nostalgia record. It is full of simple, incredibly catchy, pop songs. No its not "punk", but so what? Sure there are only about 4 chords in the whole album but its so short that they don't get old. On this album blink-182 never tries (except the slightly dumb Adam's Song) to be more than they are. This music is so devoid of pretentiousness that it is timeless gold. When I am 80 years old I will turn on blink-182 and remember the good old days.
Don't blink! You might miss it!
2007-11-19 - Blink's third album and follow up to Dude Ranch is arguably their finest work. The content of the songs really captures the lives and perils of being a young adult and the writing and musical crafting digs deep into your emotions to put yourself in the shoes of the song. The addition of Travis Barker really helps as he is an extremely talented drummer and musician in general. This is one of the finest albums of the late 1990s.
