Editorial Review:
‘Michael Jackson: The Man behind the Mask’ is the INSIDE STORY of the truth behind the rumors, ugliness and mystery surrounding Michael Jackson.
Is Jackson just a confused person who got too much fame too soon or is he a cold and calculating villain who will stop at nothing to have his bizarre appetites satisfied? Now you can read about it for the first time from the man who knows everything!
The author, Bob Jones, is not a journalist conducting interviews but somebody who has known and been with Jackson for 34 years as his chief of Public Relations; by his side since Michael was 11 years old. Bob Jones is the one person with this unique inside view of Michael Jackson’s world. To a certain degree, Bob Jones CREATED Michael Jackson. He created his image. For example, Bob Jones created Michael Jackson’s famous nickname "The King of Pop".
Michael Jackson: The Man behind the Mask Reviews:
This Book is Filled with PROVEN out and out LIES.
2009-12-01 - Both Stacy Brown and Bob Jones testified at Michael's trial, that a story in the book regarding Stacy witnessing
Michael and a child in a compromising position was NOT true and was written to get the book published. They actually ADMITTED this IN COURT during Michael's trial.
When the DA questioned them about the "story", both men said that they NEVER witnessed Michael Jackson behaving inappropriately with any child. When asked by the DA why they changed their "story", they said they told investigators that they could not say for certain that the story (they told) was accurate. When Michael's defense attorney, Tom M., questioned them, he asked them if they EVER saw Michael do anything inappropriate with any child, and they both said "NO". So, when Tom M. asked them why they stated otherwise in their book, they each said "because we were GETTING PAID to do the book". So to clarify, Tom M. said, "So, when you were getting paid for the story, you said that Michael was inappropriate with a child, but now that you're in a court of law under the penalty of perjury, you're saying that you NEVER saw Michael be inappropriate with any child". Their answer was, "That's correct". Again Tom M. said, so when you're GETTING PAID, Michael was inappropriate BUT when you're in a court of law Michael WASN'T. Their response was, "Yes, that's correct". This was par for the course for so many people that came into Michael's life. They sold vicious LIES to tabloids and publishers for MONEY then the "legitimate" press took the stories and ran with them without EVER fact checking.
I found out about Stacy Brown and Bob Jones by reading "Michael Jackson Conspiracy" by Aphrodite Jones a correspondent covering the trial for Fox News' Bill O'Reilly. She went into the trial thinking Michael was guilty and came out realizing he was innocent because she sat in on the trial EVERYDAY and heard ALL the witness testimony including Stacy Brown, Bob Jones, the Arvisos ("false" accusers), George Lopez, Jay Leno, Macaulay Culkin, Jordon Chandler's mother (1st "false" accuser) and Martin Bashir. This book is based on what she personally witnessed in court everyday and court transcripts. Google court transcript. A Great source about Michael's 1993 counter suit for extortion is the 1994 GQ article "Was Michael Jackson Framed? The Untold Story" by Mary A. Fischer. Google it. Another great source is the book "Redemption: The Truth Behind the Michael Jackson Child Molestation Allegations" by Geraldine Hughes. She's the legal secretary who worked for the "Chandler's" attorney on the 1993 case. What she witnessed was bone chilling and points to Michael's innocence and the extoration plan that Evan Chandler and his attorney carried out. Before trying to live off of Michael, the Arvisos tried with Chris Tucker, George Lopez and Jay Leno all of whom testified at the trial.
The DA's office interviewed hundreds of families and kids that spent time at Neverland trying to find 1 that would say Michael was inappropriate with them. The DA traveled to 2 countries trying to find 1 kid that would accuse Michael. The DA set up a website soliciting "victims" of Michael's. They couldn't find ONE - NOT ONE. All of this came out at the trial. This is about the truth, plain and simple. I let the FACTS speak for themselves and in the case of Michael, the FACTS say that Michael was being extorted. Everyone that ever accused him was after money.
As I learned through my research and quest for the TRUTH, the only thing Michael was guilty of was trying to help the wrong people, of being too giving and too trusting. Thousands of kids and their families visited Neverland over the years and had nothing but wonderful things to say about Michael.
Michael used to say, "A lie runs sprints but the truth runs marathons".
Racist Bob Jones
2009-11-22 - While Bob Jones claims that Michael Jackson is racist against his own people, he himself cannot keep from referring to race in every other sentence of this ridiculous book. It is very disturbing to me how evident Jones's preocupation with race is. In fact, Jones really seems to have a chip on his shoulder and "angry black man syndrome," which, as a black woman, I find to be rather unfortunate. He goes on and on about how hard it is for a "black man" to get his kind of job. He talks about how he loved traveling and going on tour with Michael, because he felt proud as a "black man" to see all these "white people" who are fans of Michael.
He goes on and on about race, as if it really matters in the grand scheme of things, which it does NOT. And he likes to use the phrase "white boys" referring to Michael's friends, to accentuate the point of their ethnicity. Thanks, Bob, but we have eyes and Emmanuel Lewis, one of the most famous child actors of the 80s who just happened to be black, was one of Michael's longtime friends too. Also, Jordie Chandler is mixed race, and Gavin Arvizo is Mexican. But, in the eyes of Bob Jones, I guess anyone who isn't "black" is just "white".
Jones then goes on to say that Michael has no black people working for him. Is he blind? Michael's nanny is black, his chef is black, his murderous doctor is black, the actresses in his music videos were black, and so are the countless musicians, back up dancers, back up singers, limousine drivers, and body guards Michael had over the years. And excuse me, but last time I checked, Bob Jones is BLACK.
Oh, and Stacy Brown, please do a spellcheck and grammarcheck before you rush another pile of crap to print. This was barely readable.
It's probably true......
2009-11-08 - First, I am a huge fan. However, I think some of the info. Bob writes in this may be true. Quite possibly he was bitter about how Michael had him canned. Maybe he would've taken this information with him to the grave had Michael been more professional about letting him go. Ok, on to some obvious issues:
I was suspicious that Michael may have wanted to be white. I noticed that he did have some skin patches (vitiligo) though, but not enough for a total depig. In his heyday, he appeared happiest around white people. He was obsessed with old White Hollywood. He had white wives and children. But this was all his preference, and people are entitled to them.
As far as his plastic surgery, obviously he was addicted to it. There is alot of pressure in Hollywood to stay looking young if you want work there. I think Michael was transgendered and actively sought to look feminine as well.
About MJ hating blacks, I don't think he was prejudiced. His judgement of Blacks came on the heels of his free-loading family. He was fed up with his family pressuring him.
If you were Black and making a name for yourself, then I don't think MJ held the same "racist" attitudes.
Maybe Michael did use a derogatory term against Blacks, but I still say his family had alot to do with shaping his attitude towards some Black people.
I don't blame Michael for distancing himself from some family either and making them go through channels to reach him. Jones had a problem with Michael doing this. But remember these are the same people who gave interviews of which embarrassed Michael. He was secretly bitter that Janet was in competition with him. Family had become a disappointment. He was disgusted with Joe calling his private number asking for half a million dollars. He never got over Latoya putting him down in the media after all that he did for her in trying to help her career. So I don't blame him.
On the flip side, Michael may have had some mental issues. I don't see how the man stayed sane with his family, lawsuits, backstabbing, money problems and pressure to stay on top in an extremely competitive game. Did Michael ever received any emotional or spiritual guidance through it all. All I find is greedy hanger-ons surrounding him at all times.
As far as the child molestation, some reviewer on here said that not only did Michael molest those kids but he was a "swallower". My reaction to that is at what age do pre-pubescent boys produce sperm? These reviewers write as if Michael was swallowing from grown men.
The problem with folk close to Michael who say he was guilty is that there always seem to be strings attached. This is what leaves doubt. Everyone wants cash in return for what they say they know. Truth is, we may never know if he actually did molest.
And in the recent wake of the suicide of Evan Chandler, I suspect his death was related to the fact that he could no longer live with himself after what he did to Michael now that Michael had passed.
Maybe Jones did see some inappropriate things of Michael with children but needed his job and didn't quite know how to approach Michael with this. I can understand that.
I just wish that Michael had better sense in keeping himself out of legal trouble. Had he done that he would be alive today. He gave so much, and all he got in return was pain.
No promise of a rose garden
2009-11-04 - Someone called Mr. Jones a "revengeful" old man and I agree wholeheartedly. This man...for 30 years.... went along bug-eyed and slave-ishly for the ride of his life!!!!! He, no doubt, cow-towed to the King of Pop like most in the MJ camp...just doing it longer than most. Mr. Jones set out in his book to character-assassinate the person whom he claimed to have helped "guide" toward Mega-stardom. Who needs enemies when one has "loyal" friends the likes of Mr. Jones? In Mr. Jones' tell-all book he promised "to give the readers what they want." Yes, Michael Jackson was his most famous client, and Mr. Jones' ride later became a bumpy one...c'est la vie, I say. A 30-year ride...too bumpy? Mr. Jones should have said "Stop world, I want to get off". But, did he? I think not.
Mr. Jones has no high praise...better still, little praise at all for the likes of the Michael Jackson whose "rocket-like ascent" he helped to chart.
This reader sensed something of a bad odor upon reading Mr. Jones' first prologue statements: "It ate at me. Time after time. Should I quit this job?" A few paragraphs later, he said "Michael had a sinister gift...it was as if he had some sort of radar." Believe me, readers, 160 pages later, Mr. Jones is still at his twisted, self-serving and damning tactics/brand of "character-defamation"!!!!!
30 years!!!!! Looking for truth? Perhaps it all there. Looking for a smidgen of LOVE in the story of Mr. Jones' most famous client, you will not find it in this stink-weed of a book.
Pardon me, but I fail to see an iota of humor in this book.....just pain, pain, pain.
Fact or Fiction?
2009-11-04 - This book was very interesting. I don't believe some of the stuff but who knows. It does seem that he was trying to help MJ understand how his relationship with kids could be mis-understood, but MJ didn't care which appears to be a common theme about MJ (he didn't care what others thought about his friendship with little kids). Jones died in 2007 and it would have been interesting to hear what he thought about MJ now. Stacy Brown has been on several shows speaking as a 'friend' of the Jackson family since MJ's death, so his credibility is questionable. Good book but you have to come to your own conclusions on whether you think its fact or fiction.
