Description of Kaya:
Kaya was the Wailers' final studio LP before 1979's Survival, arguably the album on which Bob Marley and his band reached pure pop-rock bliss (with a reggae base, natch!) via melodic tunes like "Africa Unite" and "Ride, Natty, Ride." Released in 1978, Kaya saw Marley moving more in that direction, musically, with pop melodies developing and even lead guitar piling on top of the syncopated reggae backbeats. Kaya concentrates mostly on "lighter" subjects--namely matters of the heart or just feeling good (read: screw art, let's dance)--as titles like the joyful "Easy Skanking," the beautiful "Is This Love," "Satisfy My Soul," and "Misty Morning" surely illustrate. --Bill Holdship
Kaya Reviews:
Kaya
2007-07-27 - If you're into reggae you have to have plenty of Bob Marley.
Like all of his albums, this is another nice selection for your collection. He is most definitely the King of Reggae.
My personal favorite of Marley's albums....
2002-05-03 - Marley took some criticism for his mellow approach on this album (which he was soon to answer with the militant "Survival"), but "Kaya" has always been my favorite of Island's Marley albums. This album proves Marley's versatility and talent were very real.
Hints of militancy are still in the air, but Marley's mellow side is intriguing and makes for terrific listening. One of the all-time great reggae albums and certainly a must for any reggae collection.
Another Great Album!
2001-12-22 - This is one of Bob Marley's best albums. Every song is great!
Ska is good
2001-07-09 - All the songs are good and simple and cheery, they are very catchty and very skafull
Listen to Kaya...
2001-06-07 - and be lifted above the clouds of a troubled day and into the sweet sunlight of positive emotion. What can one say or write about a masterpiece? The music here is honest yet beautiful, lighthearted yet profound, melodic yet original. Buy Kaya because it is music that you cannot live without.
