Slippery When Wet transformed Bon Jovi from minor-league poodle rockers to global superstars on the back of hit singles "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Never Say Goodbye," and, of course, "Living on a Prayer." From the scantily clad car-wash girls on the inner sleeve to the "You lost more than that in my back seat / Yeah!" lyrics, the album is blissfully untouched by irony and subtlety, which actually adds to its charm. With guitarist Richie Sambora and songwriter Desmond Child, Jon Bon Jovi has produced a slew of consistently memorable tunes, and this album contains its fair share of them. Slippery When Wet won't change your world, but it will, undoubtedly, rock it. --Ronita Dutta

Not That Good 
2009-06-20 - this isn't the worst album ever, but it's not good. Now, i'm a huge fan of the 80's rock scene, but for some reason, i never caught on to this album. Livin' on a prayer, for god's sake, i'd rather listen to an old guy crap his pants. The only worhtwile song on here, in my opinion, is "I'd Die For You." Now that's a good song.
If you're into bon jovi, GET IT, BY ALL MEANS!! but if you have a taste in music, buy van halen's 1984, or Def Leppard's High 'N' Dry instead. GREAT 80's ROCK!!

2009-05-20 - "You Give Love a Bad Name" is ostensibly the anthemic tale of a succubus in angels' garb taking advantage of a mullet clad bohunk. "Livin' on a Prayer" instantly seduces with its opening riff. (What instrument is that?!) Presumably our two main characters' narrative continues here in an unlikely New Jersey love story. In "Wanted Dead or Alive" Mr. Bon Jovi ditches the star crossed lovers for a classic Western motif. I dare you to find a more infectious 12-string riff. That he references a 6-string in the song only adds to the mystery. The rest of this album is garbage, but these three tunes keep it floating above the poop.

2009-04-17 - With `Slippery When Wet', Bon Jovi became America's answer to Def Leppard, a hard rock band that could sell a multi-platinum album to both the girls and the boys. The third time was the charm as Jon and Richie hooked up with Bruce Fairbairn, Bob Rock and Desmond Child to create their most lasting document and one of the signature albums of the `80's. Megastar status was now secured as "You Give Love a Bad Name" blasted out of radios during the summer of '86 and "Livin' on a Prayer'" provided the perfect follow-up later in that fall. Both #1 hits mind you and the Bon Jovi express was going off the rails. "Wanted Dead or Alive" would have to be considered the album's most classic song, not as dated as the aforementioned hits or "Never Say Goodbye" (never cared for that one). When Jon and Richie played the song unaccompanied by the band on the MTV awards show and created the `Unplugged' phenomenon! "Raise Your Hands" and "Social Disease" are two of my other favorites, unapologetic rockers celebrating sex drugs and rock and roll, or maybe just sex... `Slippery' was a document of the times and made Jon Bon Jovi the king of MTV and radio-friendly heavy metal...if you could call it that.

Ehhh not that good at all 
2008-10-05 - Slippery When Wet some think its the greatest album of all time but personally i think its just one of those albums you can just pass on as nothing. Whats so special about, "Let It Rock", oooh so they used synth and guitar and just played one note and than bon jovi's singing comes in who cares. The reason i give it two stars is because its okay i guess i mean livin on a prayer and wanted dead or alive is okay but besides that its too glammy. not great not good
