Editorial Review:
First of all, hats off to Bon Jovi for trying something different with This Left Feels Right--a selective collection of their most popular songs with a twist. That twist isn't a purely acoustic reworking, MTV unplugged style--anybody looking for that experience will be sorely disappointed by what's on offer. What Bon Jovi have done is re-record these songs in a completely different way while maintaining the original lyrics, melody and song structure. What's different then? Well, quite a bit actually. Check out the almost trip-hop beat and distorted vocal of "Wanted Dead or Alive", or the lazy soul of "Livin' on a Prayer". "It's My Life" is a beautiful piano-only standout, almost worth having the whole album for.
The tracklisting isn't perfect, concentrating largely on their 1980s period (there's nothing from These Days, for instance). As such, the venture works as an effective cheese-extraction exercise, keeping the elements that made the originals so great, but removing shouty, hairspray-fuelled "whoa-yeahs". What we get is something that is closer to Jon Bon Jovi's last solo offering--the criminally underrated Destination Anyway. It doesn't always work ("Bed of Roses" just sounds like a warbling cover of the powerful original and by the time they reach "Always" it's obvious they've run out of new twists), and no doubt there will be legions of bemulleted faithfuls who will denounce this as blasphemy of the highest order. Sure, it's probably just record-company filler, but it's a worthwhile investment and you won't be embarrassed to have it on when your mates come round. --Cortman Virtue
This Left Feels Right: Greatest Hits With a Twist Reviews:
Bon Jovi
2009-12-14 - Very different. Had to listen to it a few times. Soulful, really like it.
Acoustic Renditions
2009-12-04 - This is pop metal sensation Bon Jovi's greatest hits album, except they are all played on acoustic guitar. Those familiar with the grouo's flavorful pop metal may find this not very satisfying because the energy is gone. when of the best looking frontmen in Jon Bon Jovi who made his comeback in movies. I wouldn't recommend it, but worth a listen or two.
Too Left Foot for Me
2009-11-14 - Love Bon Jovi and love these songs, but not this CD. Do not like the arrangements. These songs are better as they were done orignially. Sometimes it's best to leave perfection alone. Listened to the CD once then gave it away
horrible!!
2009-11-14 - I've been a Bon Jovi fan since i was 8 years old... I've bought every record that comes out.. I bought this one just for adding into the collection, but the CD sucks!! They have released over the years acoustic versions of the songs like bed of roses, always, wanted dead or alive, born to be my baby... I mean the right acoustic way, just 1 or 2 guitars, and Jon's & richie's voices. So I expected something like that, but noo.. they really really screwed the songs... all of them, there's not a single track that you can say its ok. The only good song is the bonus track, The distance live version, which is not a big hit, but its the only good thing in this record. Even livin on a prayer with the duet sucks. So if you're a die hard fan like me, buy a record just for an adition to the bon jovi collection, if not, buy crossroad album in which the original songs are. Hope they dont make a record like this again.
Cheers
A breath of fresh air
2009-11-04 - I really enjoy listening to this cd. A read alot of the reviews and alot of you people are so clueless with the purpose of this album. I have all Bon Jovi's albums from the first to lost highway. I love how they made the songs different. This version of "It's my life" is so beautiful. It gave me chills listening to his voice on that one. Its nice to have a relaxed version of their hits. It is a nice addition to my huge Bon Jovi collection. Good job guys. By the way , unlike everyone else I actually new what was on this cd before I bought it.
