Editorial Review:
Nick of Time is the watershed moment in Bonnie Raitt's recording career, the sound of a survivor finding new focus and purpose in her art after nearly 20 years of generally superb, commercially underachieving recordings. An exquisite interpretive singer and formidable guitarist who'd long ago honed her bluesy chops, Raitt raised the stakes by mixing the usual gourmet spread of smart cover choices with her own candid songs--and she knocked one over the fence with the opening track, the album's title song and a moving confession of a boomer's anxieties about age, death, and the impermanence of love. "Nick of Time" catapulted a feisty rock tomboy into a new station that made her as admired by female fans as the stage door johnnies who'd long loved her rock technique, and she covered the bet with other outside songs from John Hiatt ("Thing Called Love"), Bonnie Hayes ("Love Letter," "Have a Heart"), and Jerry L. Williams ("Real Man") that resonated with her persona as a tough, smart, but ultimately tender woman. --Sam Sutherland
Nick of Time Reviews:
Time Nicked
2009-10-16 - Had Nick of Time when it first came out, that was along time ago! Just updated, upgraded with this purchased. I'm a Bonnie Raitt fan, from her early stuff when she wasn't well known, up to when see became a house hold name.
She can sing, she can play guitar! One of the greatest slide players. I'm more into the bluesy, rockers, than the ballads but no matter how each album, CD, ect. is laid out, there's always something that will grab you.
High Energy
2009-09-02 - I listen to this album when I need energy--cleaning, driving etc--its hard to sit still and listen.
Classic Rait.
2009-06-23 - I have enjoyed Bonnie Rait's work since she used to sing backing for the big O. Still great.
A good album but not my favorite
2009-05-08 - This album has some really good stuff on it, but I don't find it nearly as good as some of her other ones. Overall, I enjoyed luck of the draw much more. There are some songs here that I just don't get into all that much. That is just my opinion, it doesn't mean that any of the songs are bad or aren't well done. I guess that this borders on a little too pop sounding for my taste, but don't get me wrong, I do like it. Thankfully this album did get her the recognition and air time that she deserved, and for that I could almost give it four stars. However, staying true to my taste, this album rates in my mind as a solid 3 star album.
LOVE The Roads My Middle Name
2007-11-20 - I absolutely LOVE The Roads My Middle Name (11th song on this album) Why is it that we have never heard of this song or why it didn't go to #1??? As a blues singer myself, I am definitely working on this one and I know it will be well accepted and liked. I am so hooked.
