"Bridget Fonda is pure dynamite" (WWOR-TV) as a murderous misfit reprogrammed as a high-tech assassin. Gabriel Byrne and Anne Bancroft co-star in "one of the top thrillers of the year" (ABC Radio Network). Year: 1993 Director: John Badham Starring: Bridget Fonda, Gabriel Byrne, Dermot Mulroney

Description of Point of No Return:
Point of No Return is one of those Hollywood remakes of a European hit in which one can visualize a committee of studio executives sitting around and saying, "Okay, we know what made the original film unique and different and fun. How can we make that same movie and do exactly the opposite?" For-hire director John Badham (Saturday Night Fever) took La Femme Nikita, Luc Besson's undeniably sexy, original, and kitschy French film about a female assassin, and translated it into a calculating, mechanistic American thriller with no distinctive style. Bridget Fonda gamely plays the willowy street punk who becomes a high-society killer, but once that provocative irony is in place, the movie is pretty much a series of by-the-numbers action set pieces. Until, that is, Dermot Mulroney shows up as a love interest; but even that twist can't save this film. You're much better off with the original, subtitles and all. --Tom Keogh

    Point of No Return Reviews:
I can't belive the ratings on here. 5 Star Review
2008-09-02 - This movie is one of my top 5 favorite ever! I am a movie collector and a fan of Hit Man movies and I think this movie is great. I would have liked a little affair/love scene between her and her teacher but what can you do. They left me day dreaming about him making love to her like a wild animal, That actor is so sexy. I did see the French version and it was good too. But this one is by far my favorite version.

Saw this remake before the original....... 5 Star Review
2008-05-16 - If everyone thought the same, life would be boring.

I saw third remake with Bridget Fonda befor ethe original.....

This is by a long way an improvement....my only criticism is that some of the shoot out scenes are OTT.....but perhaps not much more than those with Jack Bauer in 24!!

    Loved it!!

Not better than the French version, but very good 3 Star Review
2008-05-13 - Like everyone else said, yes, it is no Nikita (French film). But, it is a pretty darn good movie. I was first introduced to the entire Nikita world through this movie and I loved it then and love it now. Bridget Fonda is excellent as the American Nikita (aka Maggie); she is a bit stronger and less confused than the French one and also uniquely different. Although American Nikita does not have that mysterious, interestingly vulnerable but intensely strong quality as the French Nikita, this film manages to pack a great heroine (of sorts, she is an assassin after all) with a great action movie and makes it one good film. Fonda is just great at playing the ex-druggie - now hitwoman Maggie, she is mesmerizing and phenomenal. An excellent Nikita. So, just watch both, and then watch the series, cause it just gets better.

Bridget Fonda gives this film some muscle! 4 Star Review
2007-09-20 - Point of No Return starring the very talented Bridget Fonda is reason alone to watch this film. I wouldn't say I didn't like this film but some of the storyline doesn't ring true. Fonda plays a junkie who is suddenly turned into a hitwoman, I guess that could be believable but I never bought into that strange set-up. Dermot Mulroney also stars as a love interest to Fonda's character, their chemistry is what saves this film, some great stunts are what also keeps this film afloat. See it just for Fonda, she is amazing and so tough in this feature.

Americanized _La Femme Nikita_ 4 Star Review
2007-06-06 - Fun treatment of the French Noir Moderne classic _La Femme Nikita_, without any pretensions of grandeur. This film clearly needs some fine-print in the credits stating "we only did it for the money," but is a much more light-hearted & trendy take on the darker & more brooding French original. They're both excellent films, but PoNR being a better "movie & a pizza" choice while the original is perhaps better reserved for the serious film buffs out there. There's whole fan sites dedicated to this movie, largely due to Bridget Fonda's excellent work in injecting life back into what was essentially a story that had been "sanitized for American audiences" by an idiot-run big-budget Hollywood movie machine. Oh well, you can rarely go wrong underestimating the standards of the American public, but they almost did so when dumbing-down LFN. Fortunately, the actors & director on PoNR did a great job & by giving everything they had, brought an otherwise eviscerated cinematic story back to life. Kudos!
