My Prerogative Pt.1 Reviews:
No Repressions, Britney Expresses!
2009-10-18 - Britney Spears can have everything taken away from her in terms of love relationships, money, or mental control but not her talent or God given gift of singing great, entertaining, and breaking chart records to explosive massive sensations! This single is an example of her survival instinct, her prerogative, her initiative to do what she wants to do regardless of what people say, think, or gossip. The song is a cover from Bobby Brown's in a very diverse sung style and musical blend. Britney proves the heat doesn't make her sweat but instead make her "more ready" to stay true to what she feels, believes, and dreams!!! Experience music for all occasions to feel great, dance, take pleasure in, or just kick back!
"Album Version (My Prerogative) [3:34]" has a pop style with fast beats, catchy hooks and plenty of singing definitely on the lines of feeling confident, in control, and very much in synch with the notion of relaying the message that her life is her own, to do as she pleases even if she stumbles or messes up [as seen in her video found Britney Spears - Greatest Hits - My Prerogative. The combination of the words, themes, and music are spectacular!
"Instrumental (My Prerogative) [3:34]" is exactly like the first track but without the words emphasizing more on the effects, guitars, and rock pop mesh along dance style hints. There's even some Middle-Eastern sprinkles of styles along bangs, claps, and chirps very hook friendly and enjoyable. Karaoke lovers will definitely feel their funk to sing their own words.
"X-Press 2 Vocal Mix (My Prerogative) [7:19]" is a completely different sound with electronica enhanced introductions, pulsating electro shock waves along pauses, echoes, spirals, and much diverse effects. Britney sounds deeper with her vocals on the *spotlight* and her voice more deep, pronounced and almost Madonna like. This does not have all the vocals and the sound is not dance club strong but more techno based along fire cracker type elevations that go high, and then take a dive. In one phrasing, an outer-space type journey type mix.
"Armand Van Helden Remix (My Prerogative) [7:49]" has a hitting cans introduction, repetitive over and over sound and vocal background bringing head-rush effects along lightning bolt jolts. Britney's vocals are present with the background swirls going full speed and her sound sort of breathy yet seductive. Again, not the club banger or the dance anthem yet very good with techno styles.
"X-Press 2 Dub (My Prerogative) [7:19]" has similarities to the X-Press 2 Vocal Mix yet has more effects, and once again the "Madonna sound alike" of "Can you handle my?" along echoes of vocals that take wild and crazy blurts that barely make it easy to understand yet enough as the Madonna "Can you handle my?" steps in again. "They say I'm crazy, they say I'm nasty" gets repeated about 3 times. This is a fun, energetic style definitely cool in splashing, sparkling, siren type chirps, and outer-space effects.
My musical tastes are varied song track mixes/remixes but since the song "My Prerogative" is one of my favorites I purchased this single. The club Junior Vasquez sounds were not on it but instead a more outer-space high tech sound with trance and other innovative styles vs. disco, or tribal type beats. It's definitely a great single to enjoy! The message behind the song is excellent because the choices a person makes are their own and truth be told, those who don't like it have to accept it. Britney Spears may have made many shake in disbelief from her choices but that's what makes her who she is!
My Prerogative
2005-12-06 - No other song from 2004 is more pretentious, calculated, and defiantly outrageous than "My Prerogative", in which Britney Spears becomes probably the first pop artist in history to consider Bobby Brown, a.k.a. Mr. Whitney Houston with a laundry list of legal offenses, worthy enough of covering. A year filled with an annulled marriage, a slight boost in her music career, tabloid coverage of barefoot gas station visits, a greatest hits CD with plans of retirement, and then another marriage just to get our knickers in a twist, and Britney exclaims over a snarling bass "everybody's talkin' all this stuff about me" as if she had done nothing but sit pretty on her famous ass all year. It`s difficult to take her woes of fame seriously, but after "Toxic" there's little room to deny that Ms. Spears/Federline is on a roll of producing some top-notch pieces of pop thrash. However brash and sleazy "My Prerogative" may appear, it's undoubtedly one of her catchiest efforts yet- further proof that all a pop star needs is a bit of laughable irony to erect a solid single.
In Response to "A Kid's Review"....
2005-10-28 - Has it ever entered your mind as to why people listen to Britney Spears? I would expect a pervert to be too busy watching cheap porn, a redneck to listen to musical trash such as "Redneck Yacht Club" (get the corresponding titles?), and a lonely person to spend his or her time staring at the wall... being, well... you know LONELY... as you claim. Twelve year old girls? Aren't they still playing with Barbies? I guess you, my friend, are yet another person for whom there is no enlightening.
I doubt she even knows what "prerogative" means
2005-06-29 - This naive redneck has no clue what this song is about. She is a high-school drop-out after all. This was Bobby Brown's anthem and his version is much better, so I suggest you check that out. If you are a britney fan, you must be either a fellow redneck, a 12-year-old schoolgirl, or a lonely pervert.
My Prerogative Pt.1 ~ Britney Spears
2005-04-29 - Spears cover sounds nothing like Bobby Browns original tune and that is not a bad thing since she is supposed to put her own stamp on a cover track and not just sound alike since then it would have been a copy and not a cover. It is rough, angry and filled with venom and she looks quite made on the cover as if she is about to have a fit of rage. I like it allot and it shows that Spears is not one dimensional.
