Eaten Back to Life Reviews:
82/100, The beginning of the brutality. 4 Star Review
2009-03-24 - AUTHOR'S NOTE: I recently moved over to a new review system in which I rate each song and then create an average rating for the whole album rather than just giving the album a rating based purely on my general feel for the album. This allows for a much more accurate and unfortunately a much harsher rating for each album. Because of this my new number ratings may not match up with the star ratings on my older reviews when I updated them with this new review system. Thanks for your understanding.

Here we have Cannibal Corpse's awesome debut, Eaten Back To Life. The overall sound isn't quite developed into the full fledged brutal death metal that we know and love, but is more like thrash metal with very brutal vocals. It's still great, just not quite as brutal as later albums would be. The guitar work is surprisingly good for a debut album and is very catchy. The drumming and bass are awesome, perfect for banging your head to. Chris Barnes proves here that he is one of the best vocalists in the death metal genre. He shows off some growls that are so deep it's near impossible to understand them without the lyrics in front of you.

"Shredded Humans"-Starts off with a barely audible bass intro but soon moves into some downright classic death metal riffs. The druming on this song is just plain brutal. To tell you the truth the only gripe I have with this track is Chris' Barns' lackluster performance. 8/10

"Edible Autopsy"-Things speed up a little here into a more fast paced and brutal song with some great drumming and very solid vocals. 8.5/10

"Put Them to Death"-Very short song but it has a cool groove to it along with great riffage, solid drumming and outstanding bass work. 8/10

"Mangled"-A very thrashy sounding song with the exception of Chris Barnes' vocals. The guitar work is very headbang worthy. 8/10

"Scattered Remains, Splattered Brains"-Some solid riffing and drumming, but nothing special until the guitar work in the second half which then gets overused. 7.5/10

"Born in a Casket"-Starts off with a classic mid-paced riff and then leads into a highly aggressive and technical riff and then switches back. THe guitar work on this song overall is great. Combine that with Chris' vocals and this easily sounds the most "death metal" out of any of the songs on here. 9/10

"Rotting Head"-Really great and brutal sounding song. The guitar work hooks me in every time. 8.5/10

"The Undead Will Feast"-Sure the song is heavy and brutal, but lets be honest here, it's a little boring as well. 7/10

"Bloody Chunks"-Another song with soem really cool guitar work and some very good drumming. This combined with Chris' extreme vocals make me a happy death metal fan. 8.5/10

"A Skull Full of Maggots"-An instant classic, and one that Cannibal Corpse still occasionally plays to this day. The guitar work is instantly recognized by any death metal fan and the drumming is just plain fun to listen to. This song also features Chris Barnes' best vocals on the album by far. 9/10

"Buried in the Backyard"-One of the more "death metal" sounding tracks on here, overall very brutal sounding and a great closer. 8.5/10

My favorite tracks on here are "Born In A Casket", "A Skull Full of Maggots", and "Buried in the Backyard". It's a really great death metal album that every Cannibal Corpse fan should own.

The remastered version of Eaten Back To Life not only has far superior clarity and quality when compared to the original release, but also has a bonus song. It's a live performance of "Born In A Casket" sung by Corpsegrinder rather than Chris Barnes.

Eaten Back To Life 2: Remastered Version 5 Star Review
2005-09-08 - This is another important edition to my Cannibal Corpse collection. I brought it some time in the fall of 2002 along with the remastered versions of Butchered At Birth and Tomb Of The Mutilated and like all Cannibal Corpse releases, I had to have it.

Now before my review, I need to say some things that are very important. Those things have already been mentioned on the middle pharagraph of my revew for the original version of this album. For those who want to read it, just go to my review for the original version and you will find it. The version that I'm reviewing now is the remastered version.

Now for my review. Not much can be said about this album because I have already reviewed the original version. So for those who read the review, you know what I think about this album. This version however is a remastered version and is not that different from the original. Some things have stayed the same but the some things have changed or enhanced. Here are just some of the changes.

1. The Artwork And Layout - The album cover is pretty much the same but enhanced. It has the George Fisher album era albums logo on it. The layout, inner artwork and dialog have also been enhanced. There is also a short commentary by Jack own about the album. So those are pretty much some of the changes as for as the album cover and sleave are concerned but no trace of Chris Barnes' influences have been altered at all. So to the old Cannibal Corpse die-hards and Barnes Legions, not to worry.

2. The Music - The music is pretty much the same as the original and the sound and production has not changed much. The front of the CD however is enhanced. There's also a bonus track and it is a live version of Born In A Casket which can be played in regular audio and CD-ROM for your computer. This version sounds like some thing that never made it on Live Cannibalism.

So all in all, this is a very important edition to a true Cannibal Corpse collection. So buy it and get re-eaten.

I LOVE HOW FUNNY THIS IS! 5 Star Review
2003-11-03 - If you're looking for funny death metal (or is that redundant?), then look no further than this classic from Cannibal Corpse. Me and my friends laughed from the first second to the last. Pure comic genius that has to be heard to be believed. Every CC release is pretty funny, but this is the "Animal House" of death metal CDs. Laughs galore, with lots of gore. They don't make mock-metal albums like this one anymore. A total laugh riot. Don't miss it.

Brutal Death 4 Star Review
2003-04-03 - Well, this is it, the remastered version of the grinding debut. Although not one of my favorites, if I want something that just beats like none other, this is it. I recommend listening to "Shredded Humans" or "Beyond the Cemetary" to hear the best technicality in the cd. But overall, this cd still is decent.
