Essential Mary Chapin Carpenter Reviews:
Essential Mary Chapin Carpenter
2009-03-04 - If you like Mary Chapin Carpenter but don't have much of her music, get this CD! Has her best stuff so far as far as I'm concerned. Most of the songs we know and like, good singer, good song writer, good artist!
Really Great Collection
2009-02-01 - I just discovered MCC in the last year or so, I'm her age so shame on the music companies for not promoting such talent more. She is as good as Alison Krauss voice wise and that is saying a LOT. But MCC's music is so full of heart and Life and Feelings it leaves Krauss sounding like a dull lifeless drone who just has a nice voice. I picked this up for a long drive and was pleasantly surprised to be able to listen to it like 7 times in 2 days. Its just got better with each play, and is even better today with familiarity. I have picked up 3 more of her albums. They are all terrific and some of her very best are sold on Amazon for really Low prices.
A Must Have
2008-03-25 - f you like MCC, and I most certainly do, this is a must have! Variety, quality of both music line and lyrics, and inteligent exposes on humankind make this a wonderful listen.
Cool Carpenter Collection
2007-06-11 - Good compilation of MCC songs. Probably 5 stars if you're a fan. MCC sings songs about life, the small details and the big events, and does it with real feeling and insight. Good tunes:
Shut Up and Kiss Me - very good, kinda rocks, kinda arousing forward attitude from a woman to a man
I Take My Chances - great lyrics, ranging from amusing to ironic. Nice line on televangelism: "he'd show me the way to the Lord in return for my personal check. So I flipped the channel and lit another cigarette."
I Feel Lucky - a good, fun, kinda catty song. The singer being fought over by Dwight Yoakum and Lyle Lovett is a good image.
Quittin Time - VEry good, a moving song about a love that's dying but the lovers just aren't sure how to finally wrap it up.
Down at the Twist and Shout - kind of homage to Cajun culture. A festive number about letting loose at a bayou bash.
Hard Way - very good, it's moving and gritty. Singer and lover have fought for what they have; stuff wasn't just handed to them.
Good collections
2007-05-30 - A good collection of most of her best songs to the date of publication.
