Description of Georgia Rule (Widescreen Edition):
When three generations of women collide, it isn't always pretty. In Georgia Rule, Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls) stars as Rachel, a wild child whose mother Lilly (Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives) ships her off to Idaho to be tamed by Georgia (Jane Fonda, On Golden Pond)--Lilly's own cantankerous mom. There, 17-year-old Rachel shocks the conservative community with her short shorts, eager sexuality (which she plies on everyone from 12-year-old boys to unsophisticated, but hot, Mormon neighbors), and her tales of possible sexual abuse at the hands of her somewhat slimy stepfather (Cary Elwes, The Princess Bride). As directed by Garry Marshall (Beaches, Pretty Woman), Georgia Rule is a flawed chick flick where the women are tolerable but not particularly likeable. The characters we want to know more about are the peripheral ones we don't see enough of--the men. Simon (Dermot Mulroney), the kindly (and sexy) veterinarian who was once madly in love with Lilly, in many ways is the film's moral compass. A widower whose wife and son died tragically in an accident, Simon would've made a more compelling movie subject than these women. And for all his latent pining for Lilly, the moviegoer feels relieved for him that dodged a bullet by not marrying into this dysfunctional family. While the female leads aren't quite believable as mother, daughter, and grandmother, they all have strong moments in the film that save it from being a groaning mess. While Lohan doesn't exhibit the charm she displayed in Mean Girls, she more than holds her own in parts with the scene-stealing Fonda, who is quite good at chewing up the scenery. --Jae-Ha Kim

    Georgia Rule (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
The most important rule to remember... 1 Star Review
2009-12-08 - ...stay away from movies like this!

I don't know why I decided to watch this movie. I think I was bored or something like that. I had a ton of OTHER movies I could have been watching, but for some reason I decided that I wanted to watch something made in my lifetime, so I opted for this mess.

How does that Cher song go? "If I could turn back time." Yeah, something like that.

Fonda, Lohan and Huffman fumble their way through this clichéd mess of a ridiculous film that does nothing new, and provides us with no redeemable moments. The acting is atrocious by almost all parties outside of Dermot Mulroney, which is remarkable beings that I find him almost always flat and uninteresting. Cary Elwes has a certain `creepy' charisma, but his character is completely wasted on this dreadful script.

The film follows wild child Rachel as she is dumped at the doorstep of her grandmother Georgia by her self consumed mother, Lilly. Lilly is hoping that Georgia's idea of tough love (something Lilly resents herself) is going to whip Rachel into shape. It is apparent that Lilly doesn't believe in her mother's methods and so it is obvious that Lilly is not doing this for Rachel, she is doing this because she doesn't want to deal with it herself. She is selfish. Rachel quickly makes an impact on the community by dressing provocatively and throwing herself at anything with three legs (if you get my hint) and once allegations of abuse start flying, Georgia is calling Lilly and Lilly is calling Rachel and everyone is lying and defending and backpedaling and just making a total mockery of our intelligence.

This movie makes you feel stupid.

It also doesn't help that it feels like an after-school special.

The film is far from believable, which is sad because it almost makes fun of a very serious situation (child abuse is no joke). Lohan's clichéd and nearly comical antics are just forced and ridiculous to witness. Huffman's character is a monster, a total creep of a woman who turns the viewer off almost immediately. In fact, even her `good' act in the films end seems like a sacrifice. I've made it clear before, I'm not really a fan of Fonda, but I admit that I have been tantalized by her antics before. This is not one of those times. She is awful here.

That is the word that should describe this movie; awful.

Portraying the community as simpletons who obsess about god was insulting. Portraying an abuse victim the way Lohan did was also insulting. Expecting us to side with ANY of these people, let alone CARE if things work out in the end, was just stupid. I think I'm done now.

    great movie 5 Star Review
2009-10-18 - great movie. lindsay is a little funny in this movie. over all i liked the movie.

Thank you from someone who's been there! 5 Star Review
2009-10-18 - I've spent more than 20 years dealing with similar issues explored in the film! What this film brings to light is the importance of validation to people who have suffered from horrendous crimes. Plus the amazing courage and strength that comes from overcoming and moving forward. It brings to light important issues many people may be unaware of -- how events can have a life-altering, destructive impact long into our future even while we battle to overcome the effects. The film also reveals the power and truth of positive interaction amongst people ... and that there are many types of healthy love and all sorts of positive relationships. While many may find parts of the film disbelieving, this film is very similar to my own truth. I am thankful to the group of people who brought forward the themes in this film, with a relieving touch of humour and compassion.

I keep being surprised 4 Star Review
2009-10-12 - I keep being surprised by Lindsey Lohan - my natural instincts are, because she is a high-profile and somewhat 'scandalous' public figure to write her off as just being famous for being famous and no more - but she is, however, an excellent actress and never better than in this film.

Add that to the fact that Jane Fonda is always good and Felicity Huffman a consummate professional then it is not surprising that they make what could be a rather squalid plot into a very watchable film.

Not a movie for most! 3 Star Review
2009-07-15 - I went into this movie thinking it was going to be a romantic drama, I am not sure where the romantic is in this movie. This movie in points disgusted me allot. Most of which was played by Lindsay Lohan, before you think of watching this movie with your family at all you need to know that there is allot of discussion on rape, alcohol and such, not something I would even watch with my brother. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because I could not give it 2 1/2 other wise I would have. Definitely a movie I will not watch again.
