Editorial Review:
Only in America could an album like this have come together: Eva Cassidy, a young vocalist who, had she lived, might have gone on to become her generation's favorite song interpreter, trading verses with Chuck Brown, seasoned godfather of the D.C. underground funk movement known as go-go. By the time this was recorded in 1992, the go-go trend had long since peaked for Brown, while the twentysomething Cassidy was still an unknown local session vocalist. Yet, on this set of standards, the two collaborate as if they were picking up where they'd left off decades earlier, from easy-riding versions of "Let the Good Times Roll" and "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You" to near-definitive renditions of "Over the Rainbow" and "Dark End of the Street." And while it's easy to focus on the posthumously acclaimed Cassidy, Brown's haunting solo turn on "You Don't Know What Love Is" suggests that unjustly overlooked talents are still making music in the shadows of our nation's capital. --Bill Forman
The Other Side Reviews:
The Angel sings on
2008-07-16 - I only recently learned about Eva Cassidy through a new young artist, David Archuleta. He has said many times that her musical talent (both lyrically and vocally) has inspired him. I listened to samples and purchased a couple albums but I must have more, her voice in soothing, beautiful, inspiring and so much more. I will never grow tired of her songs but I want new songs. Maybe in heaven!!
Pleasant Surprise
2008-06-19 - I did not know of Eva Cassidy. I heard "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on the radio on some obscure station and loved it so much I wrote down the artist's name and immediately ordered the CD when I got home. I can't get enough of this rendition of the classic song. But, I did not expect the jazz/rhythm & blues tone of the rest of the songs on the CD. Great listening!
"Another" Side!
2008-04-28 - This CD could have been titled "Another" Side. Yes, another side to the hugely talented Eva Cassidy. She also made a great choice in partnering with Chuck Brown. Eva Cassidy was musically impeccable in whatever genre she chose to sing. Her passing is such a loss to the music community.
Eva Cassidy and Chuck Brown
2008-04-20 - The Other Side with Eva Cassidy and Chuck Brown is a gift to all of Eva's fans--old and new.
Simply Wonderful!
2007-12-24 - I became acquainted with Eva through a Paul Potts thread on yutube. This CD was given to me as a Christmas present. I have several of her other releases. WOW!!!! This is my favorite, so far. Where does a voice like that come from? She is simply wonderful. We are blessed to have known her through her music. RIP, Eva. You are very much alive to your adoring fans.
