The greatest song of all time
2009-12-06 - There are few songs out there that can evoke such a powerful response from such a diverse range of human beings. Back in 1997/1998 when this was released, young and old bought this single. I was a child at the time. It changed my life. And yet even now, being an adult who appreciates classical pieces over radio-friendly hits, it still touches my soul and I find myself discovering new dimensions to it with every passing year. I imagine I will until the day I die. This is just one of the many reasons why "My Heart Will Go On" is the greatest song of all time.

Lyrically, it's quite intriguing. I've always thought that the best songs are those written without too much specification about the subject matter. It allows the individual to make the song personal. Primarily the song is about death, but it can be construed differently to suit the listener's feelings and opinions.

Musically, it's magic. And I mean that literally as well as figuratively. There is just something about this tune. James Horner has always made amazing songs, but never quite to this magnitude. There is such a deep connection in this theme that it makes you wonder if a human's love for music is a 6th sense. It's really quite a simple tune, as most great songs are.

Celine's voice is tremendous. I don't personally favour any of her other tracks, but here it seems she has made all the right moves in all the right places. It's just perfection. It was meant to be.

Now if you're smart enough to know the way Hollywood works, you'll be aware that there are actually two professional versions of this song, both by Celine. The first one (which I believe is the only one on this single), which is the original and features in the end credits of Titanic, goes for 5 minutes and features mainly synthesizer and a few horns accompanying the vocals, but little else. It equals a very beautiful, tranquil melody that is in no way worse off. But the other is the Hollywood version, which I actually prefer over the original. They have choirs, electric guitars (in the right places of course), and the most beautiful instrumental I have ever heard in my life. It just makes the song perfect. And it makes the climax not just a key change with a beautiful doomed vibe as in the original, but it makes it an out-of-body experience. Everybody at some point has heard this song midway through doing something, and pauses in what they're doing when the climax arrives. It's just the most phenomenal moment in music history. I've never come across a song that can go from such a beautiful/melancoly beginning, to a serious, strong and dramatic epic ending with the exact same melody.

1999-09-21 - I'll say it again, this is one awesome, fantastic song. It's sung beautifully by Celine and fits into "Titanic" perfectly. This song, and it's parent albums "Let's Talk About Love" and "Titanic" have recieved or gotten Celine 24 awards in total that she has EARNED.
