Welcome to the future. Biological war has decimated life on Earth. Los Angeles is a windswept ghost town where Robert Neville tools his convertible through sunlit streets foraging for supplies. And makes damn sure he gets undercover before sundown, when other "inhabitants" emerge. The Omega Man adapts Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend into a high-impact, high-tension saga of a fate not far removed from reality. Charlton Heston is Neville, fending off attacks by The Family, sinister neopeople spawned by the plague. He also becomes a man with a mission after meeting Lisa (Rosalind Cash), another unifected survivor - and guardian of some healthy children representing our species' hope. Year: 1971 Sound: ENG, FR; Subtitles: ENG, FR Screen Format: Side A: Standard; Side B: Wiedescreen

    The Omega Man Reviews:
One of the better End Of The World type movies 5 Star Review
2009-12-27 - Germ warfare has brought about the end of the world, almost.
As end of the world movies go, this one is pretty good. It has good writing with a decent plot. That in and of itself puts it far
ahead of most films you see today, but what really sets this one apart is the acting ability of Charlton Heston. He really was one
of the great actors of the 20th century even if many of his films were, like this one, more than a little on the odd side.
The recent remake of this film, I Am Legend, isn`t quite as good. Remakes are soldom as good as the original. But as remakes go,
I Am Legend was a pretty good effort. And again, mainly due to the ability of the main actor. In that case, Will Smith. Who while he may not be in quite the same class as Heston, he is close and getting better every year. Give him a few more years and Smith may
well be as good or better than Heston was.
If you like science fiction, I recomend both films. Heston and Smith both do an excellent job of playing Robert Neville. They both
make you believe that their character has been alone in a very dangerous world for three years. Lonely, mind numbed, and maybe
    more than a little nuts.

Classic Sci Fi 4 Star Review
2009-12-23 - Before watching Will Smiths "I am Legand" I watched Omega man again - I'd seen it as a teen and remembered liking it very much. It stands the test of time very well, and it's fun to look back at some of the things that existed back in the '70's - like pay phones.

A lot of traditional values at war with each other - good vs evil, technology vs. religion, struggle to survive and find a cure for scientific research that destroys the world.

Some parts of the movie are cheesy, but all in all, this is a very enjoyable movie that makes you think a bit, has a lot of action and is well worth watching again. It succeeds very well without all of the CGI effects that helped make "I am Legend" so popular. Definatley worth a rental.

Heston saving the world 4 Star Review
2009-12-17 - This story has been done more than once and this version can be a little silly at times but it still has its charms. Heston was never that great and actor but in this type of role it fits. He was never subtle but this does not require that emotion so it works.

The evil group is way over the top and not to bright so they are really easy to defeat.

This is just one of those goofy diversions.

Charlton Heston was the ultimate Robert Neville 5 Star Review
2009-08-22 - We owe Charlton Heston a great debt for helping science fiction along the path of maturity by providing us with the brilliantly portrayed Robert Neville. This is Heston's typically gifted work, and the movie to me never gets old. The casting was superb. (The latest remake, "I am Legend," with Will Smith was a horror film only in the sense that it made me wince to watch it. I love Will Smith, but casting him as a brilliant scientist was a huge stretch. He was simply too young to be an MD with research experience and a colonel in the army as well.) Heston, in this film, is the quintessential man who never gives up. He imbues his character with admirable qualities in the way only a great actor could. You just have to find yourself pulling for Neville as he struggles on and on, refusing to roll over and surrender. I find the film dated only in that Neville in The Omega Man was not a victim, he was a traditional hero. As Heston/Neville remarked in the film, as his character watched a generator-powered endless re-run of an old film, "They sure don't make movies like that anymore."

Omega Man for a gift 5 Star Review
2009-08-16 - I ordered the DVD as a gift for my Dad. This has always been one of his favorite movies, and he's had a hard time finding the regular DVD out in stores. He was very pleased to have a copy of the film.
