  • Editorial Review:
Trying to explain the wildly accelerated plot of this non-stop action thriller would be like convincing Quentin Tarantino to retell the saga of The Sopranos in 15-minutes or less. Don't misunderstand, Running Scared wastes little time on the nuanced details that make the violent, narratively precise, and intricately characterized world of The Sopranos so stylish and compelling. But boy, does it have style to spare, not to mention plenty of violence, narrative, and a cast of characters that all engage in a heady battle for your attention. Paul Walker has the unenviable task of fleshing out the role of a low-level mob flunky who's assigned to get rid of a gun that was involved in a bloody drug deal gone bad. When he botches even that little job, it's not just his wife who gets mad at him. Creepily threatened kids, put-upon women who save the day, and an array of pimps, hookers, sleazy gangsters and dirty cops straight ouuta central casting are all part of the intricate jumble of the story (not to mention bullet-time close-ups and a nifty scene that imparts the inherent danger of hockey pucks in a whole new light). It's hard to believe this outlandish piece of ultraviolence came from writer/director Wayne Kramer, the same creative mind that gave us the smooth little caper flick The Cooler. Don't think about that too hard though. Considering the madcap rush of Running Scared's wicked fun and inspired lunacy, you won't have the time to anyway. --Ted Fry

    Running Scared Reviews:
Surprise Ending ! 5 Star Review
2009-12-14 - This has to be the best performance Paul Walker has ever given.

This film really delivers on the plot, acting, and especially the action.

And the ending! Did you see that coming? I didn't!

Stop reading and buy this DVD new -- you won't be disappointed.

Excellent Action Packed Thrills and Drama 4 Star Review
2009-08-16 - Watched this On-Demand on HBO, with no real expectations, while I was working on other things. I was surprised at how well laid out the story was, and how I was drawn in. It is a dark story of a rather unfortunate scumbag Joey played by Paul Walker who is supposed to get rid of a murder weapon. Things go terribly wrong when the neighbor kid (Nick Naylor's kid from Thank You For Smoking) uses the gun to shoot his abusive step-father.

From there it is a frantic chase to get to the kid and the gun. Along the way the Joey's gang, the Russians, a Mexican Poker game, dirty cops, a totally effed up pedophile family, a pimp and much much more,

The colors, imagery, and blurred slow to fast shots really make this movie something different than your average action flick. I would consider watching it again.

So Good, I bought it TWICE !!!! 5 Star Review
2009-07-31 - When I ordered my copy it was driven by Vera Farmiga's presence, and then all the great reviews. After viewing, I knew my son had to see it,and I bought him the apparently already out-of-print Blu Ray version ( looked EVERYWHERE and all I saw were small amounts and VERY high prices, until Amazon Canada ). Knowing my boy, he'll call after watching, and be all revved up !!! Very intense flick that NEVER lets up ! No pussying out whatsoever. GREAT ACTION. And personally, can never get ENOUGH vigilante justice when it comes to the " sick and depraved." As Denis Leary says " time to thin the herd."

    Great Thriller 4 Star Review
2009-07-14 - An intense taut thriller
very well acted by Paul Walker
Literally at the edge of your seat for most of the movie
You really root for the character

And into the rabbit hole we go. 5 Star Review
2009-05-29 - I'm usually not a Paul Walker fan but his performance was on point in this film. This film is packed with twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Although I do have to warn, there is a tremendous amount of graphic violence and disturbing scenes that may be unsuitable to some.
