  • Editorial Review:
The Lion King 1½ is an ingenious sequel that retells the original film's story from the perspective of best pals Timon the meerkat (voiced by Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa the warthog (Ernie Sabella). Anyone who has wondered how this odd couple met will find out here, beginning with Timon's flight from home following disgrace and his chance encounter with the sweet but lonely Pumbaa. With the arrival of young Simba (Shaun Flemming), The Lion King's familiar tale is reborn via a fresh angle, fleshed out by returning characters Rafiki the wise monkey (Robert Guillaume), Shenzi (Whoopi Goldberg), and Simba's love interest, Nala (Moira Kelly). While the retooled narrative proves a novel experience, The Lion King 1½ is really a vehicle for voice actors Lane and Sabella, whose comic performances are shamelessly, broadly funny. Matthew Broderick, Julie Kavner, and Jerry Stiller are also in the vocal cast. --Tom Keogh

The Lion King 1 1/2 Reviews:
Desperate attempt to milk the Lion King fame 1 Star Review
2008-07-30 - I loved the Lion King, and even enjoyed the second one. This however, totally destroys the first one. All it does is take the first movie and stick Timon and Pumbaa where they don't belong, along with throwing in some random things about Timon's family. There is one cute song in the beginning, but that is one of the only redeeming qualities of this movie. You might as well watch the original, and if you want a new and interesting plot watch the second. Don't waste your time on this

The Lion King 1 1/2 4 Star Review
2008-07-22 - Having watched THE Lion King a countless number of times, 1 1/2, while filling in the gaps about the personalities Timon and Pumbaa, is not as fun to watch as THE Lion King. Set in a home movie house review format, with Timon and Pumbaa watching a re-view of their stints in The Lion King, the frequent interruptions via remote by either Timon or Pumbaa were rather irritating, to say the least.

However, it is well worth the watch compared to The Lion King II.

    awesome 5 Star Review
2008-03-26 - This is a riot,if you love Lion King ,like we do, you'll love this. All the same voice overs except Simba (he grew up!) and great music. My 3 yr.old and I love to watch this. The whole premise is wonderful!Buy it!!!

    great 5 Star Review
2007-10-02 - i receive the movie very soon, thank you i love it there in very good condition

Surprisingly good and hysterically funny 4 Star Review
2007-05-23 - I didn't expect much from this movie, and really only got it for my son. I was so glad that I watched it with him, though. During a couple of sequences I was laughing so hard that I couldn't breathe, which is pretty rare for me.

As far as repeat viewings, my 4 1/2 year old son, who only likes about 1/3 of the movies he sees enough to merit a second viewing, watches this constantly, and I definitely don't mind watching it with him again and again.

If you're looking for a movie with the drama and emotional impact of The Lion King, this isn't it. It's much lighter overall, and enjoyable in a different way.
