Editorial Review:
Just before all commercial hell broke loose for Chris Isaak, he made another record drenched in reverb, salty tears (he'll have you believe his heart is forever being broken), and the scent of lust. Ignoring the wave of pop and punk-inspired rock that was gaining notice in the late '80s, Isaak continued in his adoration for artists like Roy Orbison and Elvis (uh, Presley), and wailed on "Cryin'," "Lie to Me," and "You Owe Me Some Kind of Love." Isaak's bad-boy tease is irresistible on "Lover's Game," and he exudes a hopeful, endearing optimism on "This Love Will Last." His classic "Blue Hotel" steals the show (he should have earned his fame on this track instead of "Wicked Game"), and his cover of "Heart Full of Soul" (originally done by the Yardbirds) is faithful and passionate. --Lorry Fleming
Chris Isaak Reviews:
Chris is the current King
2009-03-12 - I first heard a recording of "Blue Hotel" being played in the background of TV detective show called "Private Eye" in 1987. I was blown away by the song, but never saw it listed on the credits. I later taped the show on re-run and still no credits for the song, BUT I never forgot the song or the sound of the artist. Aproximately 3-31/2 years later I was in a restaurant in Big Bear Lake, CA. and heard this song being played. I immediately asked the owner who was on the album. He took the CD ("Chris Isaac") out of his music machine and gave it to me. I like 99% of what Chris does; a great artist for his genre. I have everything he has released, except for the Christmas Album.I recently watched his duet with Trisha Yearwood on his new TV Show; great job by both.
Just a Great CD!
2008-02-05 - This is my favorite Isaak CD. It has a great sound-50's meets 80's production, great songs, and great presentation. This CD is really a must for an all night drive to Florida, or somewhere! I can just picture JW playing a Gretsch guitar with a Bigsby, through an old Fender amp with the reverb and tremolo turned way up. Very inspiring...
Strong Entry
2007-08-28 - I remember hearing "Blue Hotel" once or twice on the radio and being blown away by it, but it wasn't until a couple of years later that I started tracking down Chris Isaak's music. For my money, tracks 1-5 on the album are a great representation of his talent; a guy who can write songs and perform them with the melancholy of Orbison and the swagger of Elvis. The rest of the material is not quite as amazing, though by no means poor.
Great sound
