Genie in a Bottle Reviews: OH NO NOT ANOTHER ONE 1999-08-21 - Ok the music industry has fallen to the lowest depths imaginable. Every decade has had its fill of "boybands" "love happy teenage singer/songwriting girls", but how much can we actually take. Now Christina isn't a bad singer I actually think that she has potential, but how much happy pop can we take? The single "Genie in a Bottle" does nothing for me. It really makes no sense. People found the lyrics to "Give it to You" by Jordan Knight to be obscence and not appropriate for teeny boppers, but it doesn't really seem to bother people that an 18 year old girl is talking about sex in such an outright manner. I smell hypocracy in the air. The fact of the matter is neither Britany Spears nor Christina Arguilera write their own music. They are just the pawns of the industry that are trying to sell an imagine and not talent. Christina does have some talent, but to compare her to Mariah Carey, a singer who actually writes her music, is just downright ridiculous. Mariah has a 7 octave voice, and from what I've seen displayed from previous music that Christian has done she seems to only have a 4 octave range. On top of that her record label is really trying very hard to make her look older than she really is. When I first saw her on MTV, I immediately thought that she was 25, not 18. But happy day, the teeny boppers do grow up, and Christina and Britany will go the ways of Tiffany and Debbie Gibson, they'll end up on a special on VH1 on "Where Are They Now?" talking about what they used to have. Oh and if you had the unfortunate luck of watching her perform live at the idiotic Teen Choice Awards, you would see that she really isn't good performing live, and her dancing skills aren't something to be admired. If you think this review was written by some 30yr. old woman who hates pop music, you will be surprised to know that I'm 15yrs. old and love pop and other types of music, but am just displeased in the way teens my age are acting for so called "musicians" who really don't have that much talent.
YES, she can sing!!!!!! 1999-08-20 - Many people that have reviewed this song say that they hate it because they think Christina cannot sing, well yes she can. They have compared Christina to Mariah Carey, and most people say that she can't sing either, but she is actually extremely talented, and has a high octive range. Not many people can sing that well, and I would like to see all of those critics out there try. Her song is catchy, and has a good beat to it, what's wrong with that? She's a teenager!!! She's not supposed to know the meaning of life!! A lot of critics out there are saying that her song provokes no thought or meaning, she's just singing about an old boyfriend. As I said before, she is a TEENAGER, and that is a big part of a teenager's life. She is actually singing about something that is relevent to her, not trying to be insightful on what her purpose in life is. I hope everyone can keep that in mind because too many times people can forget.
!!!Absolutely The Freakin' Bomb!!! 1999-08-20 - "Genie In A Bottle" is the best song ever to make me wanna listen to it over and over and over and over. You should folow in my footsteps and do the same. Haters need not apply.
Not the single 1999-08-19 - I recently bought, not the single, but the entire album. I believe it is a refreshing alternative to the current style of pop music currently out there. To bad she didn't release he album BEFORE Britney Spears. She would've had a better audience. But then again, some are now changing...
