Christina Aguilera: More Than a Woman Reviews: Her Self-Debut Beginning - Not Current To The Times! 2009-09-28 - This documentary is not authorized, contains no performances, and has no current information. The entire cast of commentators include Ed Masley [Pop Music Critic], Jude Pohl [Theatrical Producer], Ashley Gerwig [Reporter], David Edgar [B94 Programme Director], Sean Whelan [Freelance Writer], Larry Richert [Radio and T.V. Presenter], Irene Traska [Music Store Manager], Heather Peggs [Intern from B94], and a few other clips of childhood school acquaintances. Overall, it's a sneek peak of X-tina's very early beginnings mentioning only her first self-debut album titled, Christina Aguilera with her smashing six weeks in a row #1 hit Genie in a Bottle. Other than the sales of those 2, her Interview clips, comments from guests and the woman giving the entire story there is not much else to get informed about. Christina does get compared to Britney Spears in several portions for those curious about anything on that.
Christina talks about how her hard-work got her to achieve her dreams-- making it very inspiring and even emotional to hear. She is also mentioned as being in TRL, MTV, and other talk shows. Star Search, The Mickey Mouse Club, Disney, and her first album were the focus. This has information on her high school on how the other kids were jealous of her success but was very popular with the guys, it has her life with her manager, agent, A&R guy, as well as others. Christina explains how she did a package deal tape with photos, videos, and other extras along the help of a manager to get her foot in the door as she states. She says if you have a dream "Go for it!"
For gossip, you will just get a fast photo of Fred Durst as the narrator states Christina wanted an autograph, and not much else on any type of love life. Her focus was career oriented. She was determined, driven, motivated, and blessed with her natural born talent. It was astonishing how she can sing without vocal lessons in the beginning to just about any song [stated by Jude Pohl]. Sean Whelan describes Christina as an overnight success definitely taking the music industry by surprise as being a pop sensation. B-94 David Edgar stated that her hit "Genie In A Bottle" was a huge success in his radio station air play. Larry Richert discusses her Mulan song, her soulful singing, her National Anthem in sporting events, and more. The documentary details her rise in not only sporting events but in local talent shows, the Mickey Mouse Club, and 2 Seasons of Star Search although as Christina mentions on the documentary she looses to another guy. Obviously, she is not one to give up. A true fighter, and overachiever was definitely apparent from the start.
Disney asked her to send her a particular vocal range and she sent by FedEx the Whitney Houston song, "I Wanna Run To You" for the Mulan Soundtrack. It was a grand phenomenal move. And at the time RCA signed her up too. Her friend Heather [Intern from B-94 & friend] talks highly of her and how she met her mother on a quest for an Interview but Christina was sleeping.
Christina travelled extensively to different places and mentions Japan as being a very exotic place to tour. Her success took the label by surprise as her self-titled album, Mulan Soundtrack song, and fame grew rather fast definitely making a superstar overnight. Irene Traska a music store manager states how her album and single sold so fast she was awestruck. Another Christina clip has her stating that her self-debut album has practically a different producer on each song and how she wasn't able to control the songs she actually preferred. She mentions Dianne Warren. Furthermore, Ed Masley and Jude Pohl thought it was amusing how X-tina said that "Genie In A Bottle" was not about sex but more about empowerment, asserting your independence, and "if I am a woman treat me right" when the song was actually quite sexy. Ashley Gerwig says on Christina's image that she seemed shy and intimidated by her talks with Christina but was later astounded by her transformation as being more confident on camera. Christina's radio response was positive, and it was only a matter of time before she was interviewed more. On one particular clip she states, "I'd like to do a Spanish Album" for my Latino fans and because I am half Hispanic --be sure to check out Mi Reflejo.
What does the future hold for Christina well, now in this current year it's obvious--she's an icon, diva, and more than a woman as the DVD title states. However, this documentary has nothing current to the times which makes it quite a shame and not very accurate considering the photo on DVD cover and release date. Either way, if you want to get a 47 minutes documentary with Trivia Game and some insight this may be of interest. The DVD is All regions and is very good in quality. This is not a top recommendation for fans but more for those who are extremely into critiquing Christina. It includes a menu to choose from [see below].
