  • Editorial Review:
Steve and Elyse Keaton (Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter-Birney), once 1960s radicals, now find themselves in Reagan-Era American trying to raise a traditional suburban family. Son Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox) is an ambitious Young Republican and his sister Mallory (Justine Bateman) is a shallow victim of the corporate culture, obsessed with music, clothes and boys. Their only normal kid is young Jennifer (Tina Yothers), a bit of a tomboy.

Family Ties: The Fifth Season Reviews:
Andy's Growth is as Astounding as the Season! 5 Star Review
2009-12-14 - Well, if you tuned in on September 25th, 1986 to see the season premiere of your favorite sitcom (Family Ties) - you would think the tv world had aged rapidly. I am, of course, specifically talking about Andrew's transition from infant to 4 year old. Although highly inconsistent, it was the right move. Enter Andy into the series of weekly escapades.

Fox is still at his best, spitting out one-liners like hot cakes. This season contains my all-time favorite episode of the series. It's actually a two-parter entitled "'A', My Name is Alex". The episode revolved around Alex's search for his life's meaning after the sudden death of his friend. For those of us that have been in the unfortunate position of losing a best or good friend, we can empathize with Alex's troubled mind. In the end we see a calm takeover the turmoil that plagues Alex's mind.

The season packs a strong punch & cleverly reflects the teenage recluse of the 80s.

Five out of five stars for this season!

The 5th Season 5 Star Review
2009-11-09 - This series was good at the time they filmed it and is good today. They tackle a lot of difficult subjects and handle them well. It is a series you can let your children or grand children watch learning some of life's lessons. The actors and actresses were great, and the writing was great. Order and enjoy the series.

Confusing dvd Set 2 Star Review
2009-06-29 - Overall I was very pleased to get this at first, though it looks as though they slapped this on with a shovel. Not being in the right season is very confusing and annoying!Thats not why they have dvd sets.I could have just gotten cable if I wanted the episodes to be out of order! Otherwise, still very good acting and comedy.

Five Seasons Down/Two More To Go 4 Star Review
2009-05-14 - This 1986-87 Season of FAMILY TIES was one of my favorite seasons throughout it's whole 7-year run on NBC.

This was also the season when Ellen(Traci Pollack) moves away from Ohio and breaks up with Alex(Michael J. Fox)as well as the last season when FAMILY TIES was shown on Thursday nights since NBC had moved this show to Sunday nights in the Fall of 1987 when FAMILY TIES kicked off it's 6th Season.

It was also interesting seeing MARRIED WITH CHILDREN's Christina Applegate guest starring on this show as Jennifer's pal(Kitten)before her co-starring days as the daffy Kelly Bundy on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN.

Therefore I got to see Christina Applegate before she even got famous and popular since Applegate didn't even become a star until she did MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, which premiered on FOX in the Spring of 1987.

FAMILY TIES Fifth Season also takes me all the way back to memory lane when NBC's motto was "Come Home to NBC" since that was NBC's slogan from September of 1986 thru August of 1987 along with the fact that I was living in the Imperial Valley and was 14 years old in the 8th grade at Wilson Jr. High School in my hometown(El Centro, CA)at the time this season was running.

    Family Ties 5 Star Review
2009-04-14 - We loved the show while it was airing on TV, and are delighted to be watching the DVD's - they are as funny now as they were then.
