    It's mating season...

Meet Carl (Bob Saget) and Jimmy (Lewis Black), two cold penguins on a desperate mission to get themselves some hot booty. After years of empty one-night stands, Carl wants more than a piece of penguin tail. He wants the love of the beautiful Melissa (Christina Applegate). Now it's up to Jimmy to help his neurotic friend win her heart and find his dream girl. The only thing that stands in their way is...a seventy-mile trek across Antarctica. It's a road trip like no other, as these two best bros make their way to a penguin island paradise. From director and comedian Bob Saget, comes a raunchy, yet heart-warming comedy like no other.

Get ready for a stiff and dirty ride! May the FARCE be with you...

Description of Farce of the Penguins:
Between Snakes On A Plane and Farce of the Penguins, one really wonders what Samuel Jackson has been smoking. This Jackson-narrated mockmentary of March of the Penguins, written and directed by Bob Saget (America's Funniest Home Videos), highlights the penguins' lascivious side, as the male's march inland to find mating partners. Overdubbed with human voices, Farce stars three penguins, Carl (Bob Saget), a neurotic, insecure bird whose search for true love has so far been in vain, Jimmy (Lewis Black), a mobster-like father figure who encourages Carl to keep up hope, and Marcus (Tracy Morgan), a smooth, African American penguin with a self-professed huge penis. Miles away, as the men journey inward, fighting off seals and engaging in therapy sessions with snowy owls along the way, Vicky (Mo'nique) tells Melissa (Christina Applegate) that someday her Prince Charming will come, which, predictably, he does. Watching penguins discussing the meaning of life, questioning their annual masochistic hike through tundra, or wondering if they have eating disorders is funny for about ten minutes. Samuel Jackson, the ultimate omniscient narrator, furthering the story between scenes is also odd and laughable. But Farce of The Penguins relies on its lewd humor for laughs, and though it is disarming to see waddling birds cuss, Farce's one-liner gets old. Yes, penguins have sex. Farce of the Penguins is a fun idea perhaps taken too far. Nonetheless, there is always something pleasing about anthropomorphizing animals, especially for lovers of crude sex jokes. --Trinie Dalton

    Farce of the Penguins Reviews:
    Meh . . . 2 Star Review
2008-10-06 - I wish we had passed on this one. It just wasn't that funny or that good. Nothing else to say about it. Just meh . . .

Waste of money 1 Star Review
2008-07-30 - This is possibly the worst movie i have in my DVD collection. As a matter of fact,Iam embarrassed I purchased it. The cover is misleading. Foul language seemed like every other word.

Penguins - The True Antarctica Story 4 Star Review
2008-04-20 - Not some french-e-fried, for profit, disguised as a documentary Penguin exploit film. This is pure penguin lust as foretold in "Bloom County". Thanks to Lewis Black, Christina Applegate, and all the others for the best comedy in 2007.

2.5--This is even funnier when your drunk. 2 Star Review
2008-04-17 - Though it may look like a cute, animated penguin movie, Farce of the Penguins' isn't for kids. It's Bob Saget's classic, surprisingly crude humor--pretty much all of which revolves around sex (and, occasionally, fart jokes). Think of it as 'Animal Planet' meets 'American Pie' or you can see it as a foul mouthed send up of the 'March of the Penguins.'

The concept of 'Farce of the Penguins' is priceless. There isn't a single shot of original photography used. It's all stock photography, pieced together and worked into a script that's voiced by just about everyone in Hollywood (or at least those who owed Bob Saget a favor). There's no fancy animation, no special effects. While I definitely appreciate the creativity behind it, though, the story is pretty rough. Some of the jokes get really old after a while--and the 80-minute movie could have easily ended after 60.

While there are some great parts to 'Farce of the Penguins' (like the penguins who wander off and end up victims of Global Warming--or Juan Sanchez, the penguin who loses his mind and goes off on an adventure), watching it often feels like being on the outside of a very detailed inside joke. Though I'm sure it was really funny in the studio--when everyone was hanging around, recording the voices--it's pretty clear that you just had to be there to appreciate parts of it. So the best part of the DVD is actually the making-of feature, which shows the voice talent in the studio, recording their parts. That made me laugh out loud more than the movie itself did.

'Farce of the Penguins' isn't for everyone. In fact, it's probably not for most people. But for fans of Saget's crude humor, it's good for a few laughs--especially if you polish off a few drinks before watching it.

Just plain vulgar and stupid 1 Star Review
2008-03-30 - I just endured 30 minutes of this crud on HBO before I couldn't take any more. And yes, I've seen March of the Penguins a few times, so understand the context (what little there is). Thankfully, I didn't pay a dime for it. If you like a car wreck, or a tired old potty-mouth comic from a bowling alley way off the Las Vegas strip, you just might like this movie. Outside TV, Saget's comedy has always been vulgar, and this "film" (loosely put) shows it in all his "glory." It might have been an interesting idea for a 10-minute short if it had good writing, but for a feature film? Definitely not. And the writing is just horrid; I've seen high school kids write better scripts (and jokes). This is a penguin movie with terminal bird flu.
