Editorial Review:
Director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) brings his distinctly cartoonish sensibility to this feature film version of the old Charles Addams comic strip. Anjelica Huston was born to play Morticia Addams, matriarch of the ghoulish Addams clan, while the late Raul Julia is a very agreeable, lusty Gomez. But it's Christina Ricci who arguably steals the show as their stone-faced daughter, Wednesday. As is often the problem with adaptations of comics or television shows, somehow an original story has to be implemented that doesn't clutter things up. But clutter is an issue here as the script gets tangled on a lame plot concerning efforts to steal the Addams' house and fortune. Still, it's fun to see an ideal cast reanimate an old favorite. --Tom Keogh
The Addams Family Reviews:
Welcome to the world of the Addams Family
2009-10-10 - When first seeing this movie, you will tell that it's not very close to the 60's TV series. It's darker and far more wicked. I think it's because the creators of this movie wanted to be more faithful to the original cartoons created by Charles Addams. But whatever the reason, this film is dark, gothic, and very wicked. And I love every minute of it. The entire film reminds me of Tim Burton's works because of the creepy and gloomy atmosphere, and for its very dark humor. It's a very gothic presentation of one of the most wicked families that people know and love. I'm sure that fans of the original TV series will not be disappointed in this [original Charles Addams] take on the Addams Family.
'Fun' Is The Best Adjective
2009-05-07 -
I think "fun" is the adjective most people would use in describing this film, which appealed to kids and adults. Of course, many adults remember the television series, and probably checked this out, too.
Angelica Huston certainly didn't match Carolyn Jones' beauty but she, along with Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci all were entertaining to watch. There certainly were no end to the colorful characters, unique scenes and dialog, special-effects and active surround sound. It all made for an entertaining and fast-moving film.
I didn't find a lot of laugh-out-loud moments but it did bring a lot of smiles to my face. A lot of this is dark humor, so it helps to appreciate that type of comedy.
Great, wonderful, ecstatic!!!
2009-04-21 - Whenever you ask anyone that just comes to to know me for even a small amount of time which is my favorite movie of all times, they tell you without even hesitating: The Addams Family.
I saw this movie when I was a little girl and can proudly say even now over 15 years later it is my favorite movie.
You get black humor, sarcasm, but all in a very light way. This people (the addams') and definetely not your next door neighbor *sighs sadly* and will do this unbelivable stuff one will never be able to do, like electrocute your brother, pay absolutely everything with gold dobloons, have a friend (servant, family member ???) with consist of only a bare hand that walks around the house etc. LOL!
All characters were cast PERFECTLY. Both Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia seem to have been born for their roles (such a shame Raul past out without even doing a 3rd sequel).
This is not a tipical comedy movie, nor is it a horror or dramatic movie, however it is always fun to watch both Morticia and Gomez all over the love they have for each other, getting over excited with "their" wheel of torture, red hot pokers etc.
And great movie quotes:
"Gomez, last night you were unhinged, you were like some deseperate, howling demon. You frightened me.... Do it again!" - Morticia Addams
"Don't torture yourself Gomez, that's my job" - Morticia Addams
"Children what are you doing" - Morticia Addams
"I'm going to electrecute him" - Wednesday Addams (for her brother)
"But we're late for charity auction" - Morticia Addams
"But mother" - Wednesday Addams
"I said no" - Morticia Addams
"Pleeeeaseee" - Pugsley Addams
"Oh all right" - Morticia Addams
"Look at her, I would die for her, I would kill for her, either way what bliss" - Gomez Addams (While watching Morticia asleep)
Morticia wakes up...
"Unhappy Darling" - Gomez Addams
"Oh yes... Yes completely" - Morticia Addams
Morticia and gomez share such extreme passion over each other, yet it is so carefully introduced on screen that any kid will perfectly be able to watch this move and not understand what all that is about.
Anjelica looks just gorgeous (if you haven't noticed yes I'm in love with the Anjelica Huston Morticia Addams LOL), and so does Raul.
The second movie is also good (The Addams Family Values), though I don't get to see much of Morticia and Gomez on screen which makes me prefer the Addams Family overall as my #1 choice!
Addams Family Movie
2009-01-08 - Still entertaining, but wish they would have played the original theme since that's what I kept singing to my kids before the movie played.
Another Childhood Favorite!!!
2008-12-03 - Ever since I was a kid, I've really liked this movie. I also remember at the beginning of the movie when they show Thing walking, when I was a kid I thought Thing was gonna come out of the tv and get me. It has a really good storyline. Abigail Craven and Tully Alford plan to steal money from the Addams estate. They use Uncle Fester to go and steal it. Fester had lost his memory and doesn't know he's the 'real' Fester. Soon, Fester starts to feel like part of the family and doesn't want to go through the plan. I love how everyone in the family is gothic! Morticia is extremely sexy! If you love the comics or tv series, you'll love THE ADDAMS FAMILY!!!
