Editorial Review:
Academy Award winner and Best Picture nominee, Babe is the inspirational story of a shy Yorkshire piglet who doesn't quite know his place in the world. But when Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell) wins him at the county fair, Babe discovers that he can be anything he wants to be - even an award-winning sheepdog! With the help of a delightful assortment of barnyard friends, the heroic little pig is headed for the challenge of his life in this endearing and fun-filled tale the whole family will love.
Description of Babe (Widescreen Special Edition):
The surprise hit of 1995, this splendidly entertaining family film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, director, and screenplay, and deservedly won the Oscar for its subtly ingenious visual effects. Babe is all about the title character, a heroic little pig who's been taken in by the friendly farmer Hoggett (Oscar nominee James Cromwell), who senses that he and the pig share "a common destiny." Babe, a popular mischief-maker the Australian farm, is adopted by the resident border collie and raised as a puppy, befriended by Ferdinand the duck (who thinks he's a rooster), and saves the day as a champion "sheep-pig." Filled with a supporting cast of talking barnyard animals and a chorus of singing mice (courtesy of computer enhancements and clever animatronics), this frequently hilarious, visually imaginative movie has already taken its place as a family classic with timeless appeal. --Jeff Shannon
Babe (Widescreen Special Edition) Reviews:
The Under-"Dog" Prevails
2009-08-01 - What's not to love, we did from the first time we ever saw it. Needed to add it to our collection, again (seems we loaned it out somewhere along the line..). Husband got his 46" LCD last Christmas and have found that it was like seeing the movies anew, especially when we could get the widescreen version, so this time that was a requirement. Blu-Ray is still too expensive to make sense, and can't play them in the RV when we travel. The stores didn't seem to have it in stock, so Internet shopping was the only way. This was a perfect fit for home and away, Grandson (9) loved it as much as we did during our recent "Adventure" to Mt Rushmore. Process was simple and fast, had the product in less than a week.
Fabulous BABE
2009-07-05 - This saved my life!! My son is so happy. Came quick and in great condition.
Cutest Movie Ever!
2009-06-09 - Babe is the cutest movie. I'm a teacher, and I wouldn't hesitate to show it to my classes. Children love it, and adults love it too. You can accept it just for the fun story plot, or you can enjoy looking deeper into the symbolisms and moral issues embedded. Shipping was timely.
Great For Kids
2009-05-14 - I first saw this movie in a theater with my family. I thought that it was a well made movie. The special effects with the little mice singing, and the 'talking' animals, are cute. This basically is a movie about finding out who you are, and where you belong. Babe wants to help out on the farm, and because he is a pig, the other animals don't think that he would be good with rounding up the sheep. Because of his gentleness and politeness, the sheep agree to help him. The other animals see his ability to do this purely because of his kind heart. This is a very gentle movie. One that all parents should get.(There is one small 10 second scene with a dogfight). Nothing major. The two dogs,(male and female)get along at the end.
Great Movie
2009-04-27 - This is a terrific family feel good movie. I love the voiceovers and it gives a great message!
