Description of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Widescreen Edition):
Under a thick carpet of green-dyed yak fur and wonderfully expressive Rick Baker makeup, Jim Carrey is up to all of his old tricks (and some nifty new ones) in this live-action movie of Dr. Seuss's holiday classic. He commands the title role with equal parts madness, mayhem, pathos, and improvisational genius, channeling Grinchness through his own screen persona so smoothly that fans of both Carrey and Dr. Seuss will be thoroughly satisfied. Adding to the fun is a perfectly pitched back-story sequence (accompanied by Anthony Hopkins's narration) that explains how the Grinch came to hate Christmas, with a heart "two sizes too small." Ron Howard proves a fine choice for the director's chair with a keen balance of comedy, sentiment, and light-hearted Seussian whimsy. Production designer Michael Corenblith gloriously realizes the wackiness of Whoville architecture, and his rendition of the Grinch's Mt. Crumpit lair is a marvel of cartoonish, subterranean grime. Then there's Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), the thoughtful imp who rallies her village to recapture the pure spirit of Christmas and melts the gift-stealing Grinch's cold, cold heart. You've even got a dog (the Grinch's good-natured mongrel, Max) who's been perfectly cast, so what's not to like about this dazzling yuletide movie? The production gets a bit overwhelmed by its own ambition, and the citizens of Whoville (including Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon, and Bill Irwin) pale in comparison to Carrey's inspired lunacy, but who cares? If a movie can unleash Jim Carrey at his finest, revamp the Grinch story, and still pay tribute to the legacy of Dr. Seuss, you can bet it qualifies as rousing entertainment. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
Channeling the Grinch 5 Star Review
2009-12-17 - I always marvel at the genius of Dr. Seuss, but every time I watch this movie, I marvel at the genius of Jim Carrey, and I can't take my eyes off of him. There is nothing this gentleman cannot do - - he SO deserved an Oscar for his channeling the Grinch. This great movie will put you in your Christmas Comfort Zone. Light fare, a treat to the eyes, a welcome break from the madness that is $Christmas$ that makes you re-examine your holiday motives.

Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas 1 Star Review
2009-12-07 - Very dark, very creepy. 2 of my 4 children cried watching it and kept asking why are we were watching this.... and where is the real Grinch (the original cartoon with Chuck Jones lovely animation and the true to the book narration by Boris Karloff). This on the other hand is a far cry from the original Suess. I love Jim Carey in most of his movies, amazingly talented man, but in this movie his make-up was so grotesque and the tone of the film was so terribly dark that it really did not do well with my 4 young kids. Two thumbs down on this one.

    "Delightful" 5 Star Review
2009-11-29 - Director Ron Howard's film version of the classic 1966 TV Holiday cartoon "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" is an entertaining and well-crafted adaption of a Christmas classic. Jim Carrey plays the Grinch who decides he is going to steal Christmas from the Whos who live in a town called Whoville. The neat thing about the film is that they actually delve into the Grinch's past and examine why he is the way he is, being unhappy and full of hate. The special effects and the make-up are amazing and the muscical score is breathtaking. Faith Hill does the beautiful theme song called "Where Are You Christmas?" which has now become a beloved Holiday classic. The DVD comes with many bonuses including deleted scenes, video of Fiath Hill's song, trailer, visual effects, makeup application and design, and much more. Grossing more than $260 million at the boxoffice, "How The grinch Stole Christmas" spent four weeks at the top of the boxoffice charts, although some critics hated it. Don't forget that the original Boris Karloff cartoon from the sixties is also available on DVD with a bunch of special features.

Very Good Movie, After.......... 5 Star Review
2009-10-26 - after watching "The Cat in the Hat" I'd call this movie heaven, no lie. This movie was amazingly good, its one of those movies I can watch over and over again without getting sick. Jim Carrey is very talented and this movie showed. I was very disappointed about "The Cat in the Hat" that was absolute garbage, but this movie sends a message to people "never treat people badly, because one day they may change!"

Like this Christmas movie. 3 Star Review
    2009-10-24 -
