Editorial Review:
Based on the classic fairytale by Charles Perrault, this 1988 Cannon Group production of Puss in Boots is a musical movie-tale that spurns self-imposed limitations and proposes that anything is possible with a little imagination and a firm belief in oneself. The story opens with a dying miller bequeathing his cat Puss to his youngest son Corin (Jason Connery). Corin sets out with his paltry inheritance to make a new life for himself, but is quickly besieged by strange visions of his cat Puss (Academy Award-winner Christopher Walken) taking on human form. Puss promises that all will be well if Corin will just buy him a pair of boots and, despite many misgivings, Corin buys Puss the boots and finds that they somehow enable Puss to maintain human form. The clever Puss in Boots devises a plan to ensure his master's lasting happiness, gaining access to the King (Yossi Graber) where he fancifully describes Corin as the wealthy and noble Marquis of Carabas. When the King summons the Marquis of Carabas, Corin falls in love with the Princess Vera (Carmela Marner) and struggles to somehow live up to his new title in order to win her hand in marriage. While a relatively low-budget production, the songs and dances make this version of the classic Puss in Boots fun for the entire family. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi
Puss in Boots [Region 2] Reviews:
Enjoyable
2009-08-22 - Christopher Walken makes for a great Puss in Boots! it was so fun to watch him crouch as he was luring that bird, and to see him wiggle his butt like a cat does as it's about to pounce. So cute! I also love the cat that was chosen for the role, such an handsome cat! Overall, this was a fun romp of a movie, with a couple of creative little twists to the story.
The ineptitude of the guards at Puss' first arrival is hysterical - all the guards and attendants were sleeping or inattentive as Puss waltzed right in with his gift. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the Ogre - I was hoping they would have used their CG skills to make him appear bigger, after all they did use the CG for the animals whose forms he took. When Puss challenged him in human form, the Ogre was not much bigger, so the effect was not as impressive. At least the actor who played Ogre DID try, even if his role was a bit comical at times. Some people would consider some of the special effects and props cheesy, but for a 80's movie, it was great, and even today, still has its charm. A solid 4/5 stars for a rather enjoyable movie.
Don't be fooled by poor reviews
2009-03-06 - I own this movie and have for some time now. Whether or have children or not, if you like the tale of Puss in Boots you will probably like this movie. If you are prepared.
The acting isn't really all that bad, the writing itself is just campy, which some reviewers have shrugged off on the actors. I saw another review that said Christopher Walken should't dance and sing. Chris has been a dancer and singer since the start of his career and is very taleted. But again the songs and the coreography made hi look a bit lacking.
If you are expecting a masterpeice as a kids movie, you may be dissapointed. But if you don't mind somewhat campy ad VERY ADORABLE musicals. You will LOVE this.
Best I have ever seen of Puss in Boots
2009-01-11 - This was in excellent condition and the best musical movie that I have ever seen of Puss in Boots. It was funny, fun, cute, and amazing acting. I loved it. I highly recommend this movie. If you do not adore musicals or fairy tales than you probably wouldn't like it. However IF you do than this is a movie for you.

Save Your Money
2008-02-17 - If you enjoy musicals with poor acting then this is your movie. Now I have to admit that I didn't watch the trailer and if I had I wouldn't have rented this movie. By the description I was expecting an annimated film. If you are a Christopher Walken fan you might be interested in seeing one of his early works with him as a redhead singing and dancing both of which I am glad he gave up.
Great Family Entertainment
2007-11-13 - I bought this for my 5 year old grandson. We had recently seen it on Cable TV and really enjoyed it. The Ogre is a little bit scary, but I remind my grandson that he is just like Shrek. He really likes it when puss tricks the ogre into becoming a mouse. The rest is history. It's great to see some good old fashioned fables! Our family are really big star wars fans. So the triumph of good over evil is always a great story to us. Christopher Walken is great in this...he portrays puss perfectly. Great movie!
