Editorial Review:
Country crooner Clint Black hasn't lost sight of what Christmas felt like when he was a kid growing up in Houston, and he captures every bit of that excitement and innocence on this heartwarming collection. Geared towards the younger set, the disc sees Black reminisce about his holiday dreams of "The Coolest Pair" and the Christmas Eve memories laid out in "Til Santa's Gone (Milk and Cookies)." But even though most of the album is light and festive fun, Black does remind folks that the holiday isn't merely about material goods with songs of praise such as "The Birth of the King" and the uplifting "The Finest Gift." --David Sprague
Looking for Christmas Reviews:
one of our family favorites
2008-10-12 - we had heard the song we refer to as "Milk and Cookies" on the radio ( the actual title is "Til'Santa's Gone")and were so excited to come across the cd at the store.Every Christmas this is the one cd that we all have to be together as a family before we can listen to it for the first time each season.
enjoy!
My Favorite Christmas CD
2007-12-17 - It really wouldn't be Christmas without this one. I have given it as a gift to many of my friends. It's a great blend of original songs both secular and Christian.I wish I could find sheet music for "The Birth of the King" - my church would love to hear it.
Best Christmas CD!
2004-12-26 - This is my absolute favorite Christmas CD. A woderful, original compilation of songs. I start playing it in November, until the end of February. This definitely showcases Clint's talent as a creative writer, and singer. "Looking for Christmas" is an amazing song, as well as "Birth of a King". And for a more lighthearted song, "Milk and Cookies" is very catchy and cute.
I believe Mr. Black has found it...
2003-09-30 - Clint Black is one of Country music's most talented artists. Not only does he bring a truly unique voice to the table but he also pens the vast majority of the material he performs.
"Looking for Christmas" delivers 9 originals (the 10th track is a beautiful instrumental reprise of the title track). Again each track is written or co-written by Black and it's a nice change from your typical Christmas releases which generally have the artists performing the standards which have been covered by everyone from Julie Andrews to Andy Williams.
Some highlights: "Til Santa's Gone (Milk and Cookies)" deserves to be a classic in its own right. What a charming slice of Christmas Eve nostalgia through the eyes of a five year old. The blue-grass track "Coolest Pair" teams up the narrator with the likes of "Frosty" and "Rudolf" for some winter fun. "Slow as Christmas" has the singer questioning the validity of that old saying in an upbeat number. On the softer side we get "The Kid", a take from an adult who still believes in the magic of Christmas and "Under the Mistletoe", a romantic number about a wish that a kiss 'neath the mistletoe is more than just a peck based on the tradition. The other numbers are just as worthy.
The quality of the material matched with the budget price make this a must-buy for anyone looking for some new and unique music for the holidays.
new, creative, and timeless
2001-12-14 - I'm not a country music afficionado by any means, but after someone loaned me this alblum I was sold on Clint Black. Although there are country idioms throughout, the lyrics are more Christmas than Country and are driven by strong melodies and good production values. This collection introduces what I consider six new standards into the christmas music catalog. An amazing amount of work for any artist, country or otherwise.
